  1. I want to say it depends on how you're doing on the floor. I know someone failed and they were allowed to retake. nursing school exams were definitely harder but you just have to understand and know the material.
  2. Most of the people in the class were also new grads and many passed.. Just like nursing school exams.. pay attention, take good notes & study! I felt HESI/NCLEX was harder than the exam but don't slack off.
  3. I was in the same class as PCU but just not the training portion. For ICU and PCU, they take the same course and exam. The exam was about 100-110 questions. Exam questions were appropriate to what was learned in class. Just a long exam but otherwise questions were not too difficult. As long as you understood the material and studied. I can't say about the PCU training on the floor since I didn't train there..
  4. This is from a previous response form someone else" Most of the questions were behavioral scenario and then I got two pretty basic clinical scenario questions. One question I got that caught me a little off guard was "what's a misconception people have about you and what do you do about that", but the rest of the questions were straight forward. I had a brief interview with the manager after that who asked more clinical scenario questions but all were straightforward.” Goodluck on your interview. I suggest looking up questions and practice answering them.
  5. Hi everyone! I am hoping someone can share tips/advice on being a new grad in the ICU.. in just a couple of weeks I will finish my training and I will be on my own. I have noticed I lack critical thinking and have difficulty in knowing what to ask the doctors for my patient. I am completely new to nursing! No nursing experience whatsoever. Is is normal to lack critical thinking and not know what to ask from the MD or am I behind? Should I take a step back and not continue in the ICU. I don’t feel nervous going into my shifts. I am able to do my tasks, assessments and have a overall good workflow but I don’t want to be a task type of person. I am looking for any advice on how to better my critical thinking and how to know what to ask the MD. Any advice/tips are greatly appreciated! Thank you!
  6. I got my ranking email on 6/1 and 2 hours later I got an email to schedule an interview. I was interviewed on a Friday by 2 ANMs and after I met with the manager who asked me 2-3 scenario questions. They called me the following Monday. Interview questions were the same questions you mainly get asked.. tell me about yourself. Why do you wan to work here. Strengths/weakness. Questions like that. I suggest looking into common new grad questions and going through them to not get thrown off. I started June 27. I will soon be done with training and will be going off on my own starting September 24. As far as the program goes. No complaints here besides the class having an exam portion & having to score 80% to pass ?. You may take exam depending on which unit you will be going into! All of my preceptors have been amazing and kind. If you get an interview, let me know which unit it will be for.
  7. Hi! Sorry for the delay in responding! So.. the unit I am currently in is currently (or already finished) hiring for the next start date which is September something... This is for the IICU (it is a new unit they are starting). The program consists of 12 weeks. 1 week of orientation, 3 weeks in class and the rest is on the floor. The orientation itself will include other staff from different floors/titles (unless it's the hands-on orientation). The class itself will include staff from the unit or similar unit but RNs only. Class is in person for 8hrs. Fox example IICU and PCU are going through the same class. Some staff were hired as extra help and others coded (full time) - as far as how they made that decision is unclear to me. They have hired for AM, PM, and NOC. Are there any questions I missed in answering or anything else you guys would like to know?
  8. If I am not mistaken, extra help and full time employees will go through the same training program. It’s 12 weeks of orientation on the floor training, & class. So far it’s 1 week of orientation, 3 weeks of class (m-f, 8hrs) & the rest of the the time on the unit. Also I don’t know about the start dates. I started with a group already for the critical care training program. Do you know if it’s a for a specific unit? Were you hired already?

  15. Oh you are for sure getting the job ??! I think everyone does afterwards.. the person who interviewed before me also came from the same direction I did after meeting with the manager.
