Can you list your profession as CST/first assist if you are only a scrub tech? It's my understanding a first assist has to be a CNOR. Is this legal?
I also did not read the OP as having a negative connotation to it but once it was pointed out I could see how it could be taken that way...it's all in how people read things, some people read into a message and put a tone on it that was never even intended...and then I felt the need to explain what the other poster was trying to say because it seemed to be getting lost in translation. Still don't see anything wrong with the original post, I just had stepped in to explain the point of view that the person who pointed it out was trying to convey.
I see now, I was thinking as only the word-not the word only. I went back reread my OP and I see now.Geez, everyone is so sensitive..smh
My feelings would not be hurt if someone said 'only a nurse' in a sentence like she can't do that because she's only a nurse..it's the truth-I can't prescribe medicine because I'm 'only a nurse' not a NP give me a break..doesn't mean I'm any less valuable as a team member.
Being an RN I don't think you can really understand what it's like and why it's offensive because you have never been in one of the "only" positions. I have in my LP/VA days and it has nothing to do with being sensitive, it has to do with respect. If you want to continue to disrespect people by blowing what Rose_Queen said off that's your choice. But I hope instead you might look at things from someone else's perspective. Scrub techs, lvn and lots of other groups get **** on all the time by people with this attitude.

I agree. I'm a scrub tech who has been in the OR 6 years. I work with a nurse who has been in the OR now a year and he thinks he knows everything and treats me like you-know-what for being "only a scrub tech". So thanks Rose_Queen and NightCrow for sticking up for those of us who are "only a scrub tech".
There are CST/CFA or CSFA surgical technologist's can get FA certified. I almost did when I was a tech but my state doesn't recognize them anymore. CNOR has nothing to do with first assisting. Nothing wrong with asking a question that's how we all learn, right?
There are many RN's that treat CSTs like garbage, it makes me sick. So please be aware that it is a sensitive issue because it's so common. Happy Surgical Technologist week (next week) to everyone that is or has been a ST/CST

I don't feel attacked. I'm just tired of what this world has become. Everyone gets a trophy just for participating in an attempt to spare everyone's feelings...
If rose queen is well aware of text being taken out of context then she shouldn't have been offended at all-instead thought to herself 'well, I should refrain from saying anything about being offended because I don't really know if that is how she really meant it.' Since clearly in my OP, I was not bashing scrub techs just simply asking a question so there should have been no misunderstanding at all..
