What do you think of scrub people who throw all their raytecs in the drop bucket when closing so he won't have to count them?

It sounds by your comment the circ really isn't that involved in the counts and if that is your way it is wrong.

No, I don't work in a third world country. The circulator and scrub person both have to look at the items being counted.

If you're okay with the scrub person throwing off items instead of counting them, why not have him throw off everything? He can give you all his raytecs, laps, needles, peanuts, and instruments so you can count everything as he watches. You can use your foot to hold the count sheets.

ONCE AGAIN, I have no problem with counting used raytecs that have been thrown off one at a time during the case. I DO have a problem with the scrub person throwing off 9 unused raytecs simultaneously at the same moment that he tells me that he is ready to count.

I have to agree with mikethern on this. In this case, the scrub simply does not want to be bothered and is just throwing unused sponges off the field.

Where i work we will count off and bag raytecs in groups of ten, lap sponges in fives, peanuts in fives etc. The scout doesnt' need to put on gloves because they visually count the items with us as they are bagged and labeled.

If i know i'm not going to be using the lap sponges i will hand them to the scout at the start of a case, they are put outside the theatre and are not included in the count. This is according to ACORN standards.

If someone just dumped all their stuff on the floor or in a bucket and expected me to put on gloves, seperate them and count them i would be having words with them about it.

I dont think it's fair to put unnecessary work on the scout. Not because they are lazy but because it's considering your team members.

Shodobe you made a comment that it's easy to lose something that's kept on the back table. I personally would be very concerned about a scrub who simply throws off items because they fear losing something on their table...

Well then, I guess you are not used to people sticking up for themselves when you talk down to them.

Thankfully, I work with people now who don't play little mind games. We're a team that just does Ortho, so we're fairly close knit. No one has tried to throw a bloody lap sponge at me here so I'm happy. I think the tech that tried that at the other place had mental problems.:uhoh21:

I do agree with the majority of the answers. I have always gotten a little hot under the collar, or in my case mumbling under my breath, when a big lump of bloody raytec are dumped into the kickbucket. About the people who miss the bucket on purpose,,, I once took a big piece of paper and drew a target on it and placed it under the kickbucket. I then asked the scrub,,,"Can you see it now?":angryfire
