Scripps New Grad Residency March/June 2017

Hey all!

I thought I would start a thread for those of us who submitted an application for the Scripps New Grad Program for March/June 2017. It took me forever to find the application, it wouldn't allow me to search it on the jobsatscripps page. I did finally get it submitted around 9:30am CA time so hopefully I made the 500 app cut off.

What do I do? I got a job in a hospital and jan 20 is my second day of orientation which is also my interview date at scripps. I am torn between going to the interview or not. I really want to work at scripps, but at the same time it is not guaranteed if I get the job. The other hospital is already sure.

I would stick with the current job you have since it is a sure thing. If you really want to work for Scripps that bad, I would finish your first year and get that on your resume, then apply to one of their many positions for Clinical Nurse II. No point in risking your job security over something that could/could not pan out.

Take the sure thing. New grad jobs in this area are exceptionally hard to come by, so don't toss yours away for a "what if..."

Get your experience, then if you still want to work at Scripps, you can apply as an experienced nurse. Plus, you will likely have developed a network during that time, and you may find yourself knowing a person or two inside/affiliated with Scripps who can help you break in.

Yes and my advice is to try and stay busy to keep your mind off of it. BTW I saw on the handout they gave us they will only select 20-25 people for the program. Is that the true number? If so how many people did they interview? I know the interviews were supposed to be two days and pretty much running all day. In my interview "group" we had 4 applicants. As I left I saw another group already in the waiting room.

20-25 per cycle, which they are hiring for 2 cycles at this time (March & June). so a total of 40-50 folks based on what they said. They also said that they were interviewing around 150-160 so, pretty much got a ~30% chance of landing a spot. No worries though, It was the same if not worse odds for the UCLA residency and me and 2 others that interviewed at the same time got the positions so, anything is possible! Keep the faith!
