Scoring in the %50's in Kaplan; studying for NCLEX

Published

Hi,

I am taking Kaplan right now. I have been taking the kaplan trainer questions and have been scoring in the low %50's. All of my friends are scoring in the %60's.

I don't even know where to begin studying. The books and videos on the Kaplan website are NOT good. I think the main problem I have is I don't have a good basis for all of the content. I really struggled all throughout nursing school. I would grasp information right before tests and then completely forget everything once the next test came around.

The kaplan teacher said that we should be doing 50 questions NCLEX-like questions a day.

I don't know how to study. I feel lost. Please any tips will be helpful.

If you feel you are lacking content the Hurst Review might be a good review for you. The important part of grasping content is reading your rationales. You can do 500 questions a day, but, if you are not reading and understanding the rationales following the questions then you might as well not have done them. Reading rationales will help you learn content. Be sure to focus on your weak areas and please, do not get too caught up in your scores.

The scores are not the important part...the important part is understanding the rationales. Good Luck! You can do it.

Thank you RN 403. I think you're right that Hurst may have been a better option for me.

Do you think that content can be learned through reading the rationales?

Thank you for your support, I appreciate it.

I decided on Kaplan over hurst. I haven't taken my test yet (I graduate in 2 weeks), but what I do is go over all the rationales to make sure I understand them all. Then, I keep a running list of things I don't know and need to review and then at least review them using my nclex review books and check them off! So hopefully this all will help me pass the nclex!

Hello!

That is a good idea: keeping track of topics that you don't understand fully. I think I will start doing that as well. I have heard good things about Kaplan and Hurst. I chose Kaplan because my school strongly encouraged Kaplan.
