Science on TEAS test

Published

Hi All, I've read so many posts that stated the science portion of the TEAS test comes out of nowhere (rock formation, etc). I'm wondering if I should get a geology study guide? Anyone have any useful input, suggestions? Everyone says the study guides don't cover what is on the science portion. Thanks

Yes, I think the mucocilliary escalator found in bronchi, bronchioles, and trachea. If three of them were choices, I would go with trachea. I am not sure. Wait for others.

Check it out in your A&P books. If you use Human Anatomy & Physiology. Elaine N. Marieb, P. 841. That's why I thought it might be trachea.

I did my little research. I found it somewhere. Let me know if you'd like me to explain.

BTW, did you take the test? Please share, what sources where eminent for your study guide.

So far, I have the ATI guide (manual + online) and Mcgraw. I am only given one shot. I need to bump it up or I won't make it to the nursing program. Share anything you have in mind. I am mainly worried for the English reading, math, and science. :lol2:

yes, i did. i took it before (about a year ago)i started my pre-req's. i got a 70%. i am going to re-take the test again on jan 13. i have the ati manual, and i go over a&p, and micro. i think the ati manual section isn't the same with the actual test. however, if you take a&p and micro that will help u with the science section. when i took the test, i had not taken those classes, but i went to take the test because i wanted to have some ideas about the test. so, i hope i will get a better grade this time.:nurse::)

Took the test today. They told me it had just changed in the last week. The science questions are good but I don't think I had any of those. I had some that were in the study guide so I would recommend going over that and memorizing as much as possible. The Rock cycle part of the study guide was on my test. I will never forget that Igneous is made when magma cools. There were only a few physics ones not in the study guide. The other area people miss is the punctuation and spelling. You read a paragraph and tell what you would change just like in the study guide. Hope you all do better than me.. I only got an 81.2. Going back in 30 days for another shot at it.

I did take both anatomy and Mircobiology in the past. I do not feel like reviewing them. At the moment, I am concentrating on the Verbal. A lot to study! Subject, vocab, misspelled words ..etc. I am solid on my math skills, except worried on my timing.

I am doing practice test at the moment and I am kind of ****** doing little errors. I have 65 % on verbal.

It seems like you have problem with the science part. I am not to worried about the science but trying to do great on the other 3. Any advice you have is still appreciated.

Do you have ATI online practice test? Isn't that helpful?

Hi S. vincent,

check your email I send you email and good luck.

Hi Virgina or S. vincent,

I could not open your mail, please send me the math part you have said before.

thank you!

I took the TEAS today (1-7-10) and here is my take on it. Hope this helps. Apparently everyone takes a different test or so they say, so everything is based on the test I saw.

Reading

The reading section was pretty straight forward. There were short paragraphs with questions asking what the main idea of the passage was, whether or not it was informative, persuasive, argumentative, etc. Other questions were specifics that could be easily found in the passage, such as following directions.

Some of the other questions were reading charts and graphs and then answering the questions. For example there was one question that asked to identify the speed indicated by the pictured speedometer.

Mathematics

Almost all of the questions I had in the math section dealt with fractions. Adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing and then simplifying them. Several questions about simple interest, one geometry question, and a few simple algebra questions for finding unknown variables, but nothing too complicated.

English

The bulk of the English was checking for correct punctuation in short paragraphs. There was some spelling, synonyms, anonyms, and some sentences where the order of information was not correct and I had to choose the correct order for the sentence to make sense.

Science

Now this was a different animal. The questions where all over the place. Anatomy, Biology, Geology, Physics, and Chemistry. The only thing I can say here is that it is more about concepts and not so much about specifics. It would be helpful to know how to convert temperatures from F to C (and vice versa), chemical bonding, wavelengths, metric conversions, force, velocity, a touch of cell theory, and where rocks come from.

With that said I only used the ATI Pre-Test Study Manual, until I took the practice test online and realized I knew nothing about Geology, my Chemistry was weak, and it has been a long time since I have taken Physics. The ATI does not cover enough science to be very useful on the science portion of the test in my opinion. I began reviewing Chem4Kids.com after taking the practice test and it helped a lot. There are also links for Physics, Bio, etc. If I would have had a little more time to review the website I think I would have done better on the science portion. I ended up with an 84.7 overall, which I am not happy about, but my advisor said it will get me in the nursing program so I am going to live with it and not re-take the test. If it wasn’t for the science I would have been in the 90’s since I scored 90+ % in all the other categories. So there is my 2 cents and like I said I hope it helps. Good Luck.
