Do they still exist? Ones with assigned clinical sites/preceptors? The schools I have spoken with all claim they "help" but I see coworkers that cant progress through their degree due to lack of preceptors. I move a lot due to my husbands job so I do not have a big network and online programs are my best bet. But I do not want to invest in a program and get stuck without preceptors. I would prefer a school in the Southeast and I am curious if any still actually do assign preceptors or if that is a thing of the past. Anyone know of any?

This topic has been at the forefront of my mind lately because I am trying to secure a preceptor for my first PMHNP clinical rotation (adults ). I have considered the option of paying a third party but honestly find it morally reprehensible. I would not mind paying a preceptor because I know having a student slows anyone down. I find it offensive to pay a third party thousands of dollars to complete paperwork. And I definitely don’t want to contribute to this problem. As far as I know no one receives a health care degree and license without the mentoring of experienced practitioners in their specialty. It seems wrong to me that corporations are profiting from this need. What do others think about this issue?

I am assuming based on the 10+ emails I get weekly from students that many schools don't provide them. I think it's a red flag and I'm glad the lack of preceptors provides at least ONE bottleneck that limits graduate numbers. If it wasn't for that the Waldens and Phoenixes of the world would probably be graduating a hundred thousand NPs a year instead of "only" 4-5 thousand.

@MentalKlarity I think these school should become more selective. The lack of preceptors shouldn’t be the only thing stopping these schools from throwing out degrees.

They should but I'll take wins where I can get them, at least until the nursing boards realize they can make even more money by doing away with clinicals altogether ?

NPs with no clinical experience? I hope I never see that day. This is the reason why I really wanted to go to a more reputable school for my BSN to DNP but I refuse to pay 6 figures for another degree. Some of these tuition cost are OUTLANDISH.
