do schools do random drug tests?

0Do nursing schools do random drug tests? My doctor prescribed me clonazepam for postpartum anxiety but I'm afraid to take it if the school (Carrington college in Boise) does random drug tests. I had to pass a drug test to get enrolled and I did, I never did any drugs so it was clean. But now I got really bad postpartum anxiety (my baby is 6 months) and I don't want to take but I clearly need it otherwise I just cry all day long. I know if I have a prescription I'm going to be fine but I don't want to explain it all and I'm very embarrassed by it. Please advise if you can, thanks in advance!

Things will be ok. My school does random testing, but typically only if there is a concern. That being said the concern might not even be with you, but with another student, but they may randomly test several students to seem less obvious. I am glad you are getting the help you need. Too many Mothers do not. Sometimes it ends in tragedy. Take care of yourself and feel no shame in addressing a serious problem.

My good friend, too, suffered from depression. She was prescribed medication and just let the school know. I'm sure you will be just fine.

Alinkastar, actually you are not under any obligation to tell your school you are taking this medication. What happens in a situation like this is you contact the lab performing the drug screen and provide them with proof of an active rx-usually a copy of the script will not suffice, and they will ask for a form signed by your prescriber.

Once you provide the necessary documentation, the results of the drug screen are listed as "negative" and sent to your school.

I went through this process myself, when I was taking xanax for a short while.

If you have a valid script for the clonazepam, you're fine.

Know these two things:

1. I have never heard of a nursing school that does random drug testing. Maybe they exist but I think it's very unlikely.

2. If they do randomly drug test you, very few people, If any, will know about your meds. If your school uses certified profile then no one will know about your meds. They only report positive for ilkegal, non prescribed substances.

You're good. Deep breaths, imagine good outcomes for your plans. You got this.
