Schools that accept low undergrad gpa???

Published

Hi, I am a pre-nursing student who just graduated undergrad with a terrible gpa 2.47 to be exact and I majored in Neurobiology and Physiology. Does anyone know of any schools honestly in any state that accept low gpas or have a point system that includes the teas, volunteering with patients, letters of rec, and personal statements as well as gpa? I am thinking about adding more pre reqs through maybe a community college like philosophy, dev psych, and pathophysiology in order to increase my gpa to hopefully a 2.5. Thanks!

I am not expecting anyone to do any work for me maybe I asked the wrong question and did not provide all the info I needed to. But this is the first time I've ever reached out to an internet community about it so clearly in your opinion I'm doing it wrong. Everyone else has been nice enough to ask me questions and give me some guidance without assuming that I'm being lazy. I'm just looking ti chat with people who have been in my situation. I've done research and called many schools but there's only so.much you can get from one perspective and I just want to talk to people who have been on my side. And I'm not looking for everyone to be nice. If I wanted that id call my mom. But I also don't need someone to completely disrespect me because I asked a question wrong.

Not giving you the answer you want does not equal you being disrespected. There are seriously so many variables in place here that there is no way for a stranger to tell you what school will take you. What exactly are you looking for here? What state are you in, what are your grades, what are your test scores, what classes are you retaking? You can't just expect us to do all the work and I'm sorry but that's what you're asking for here.

There's nothing wrong with the OP throwing out a question on these boards. Clearly that is part of her "research." There was NO indication that the OP came here asking other people to do her "work" for her. Your responses are rude.

Getting into an ABSN program will be extremely difficult with low gpa. ADN is definitely something to consider. The local comm coll here has a points system and the majority of points come from the pre req gpa and HESI score.

Well, here is my advice. Take your prerequisite classes and get a 4.0 GPA in them. If you put your mind to it, you can do it. Although it will not guarantee your acceptance, it may very well overshadow a poorer undergrad GPA, which you can also explain away in a personal statement. And getting the 4.0 in the prereqs will demonstrate to some schools that you are serious about succeeding in a nursing program without having your past haunt you.

Thank God I'm not the only one offended by you on here. I'm done. I'm sorry that I don't understand how these questions work because I am a new person on this site. You could have been a little nicer about how you talk to me here. If you're just going to be rude to me and I am clearly not the only one who thinks so can you please direct it at someone who knows more about what is going on. You could have just been like hey can you repost this giving us more of an idea about what you've done and what you know so we can give you proper feed back instead of being so rude to me.

also thank you to other people who understand that I have no idea how to address my question! And if you agree with the person who first posted on my site than thank you for being nicer about what i should do next time i would like a little advice on a topic and thank you for just ignoring my post if you have nothing nice to say to me.

thank you for saying this! I really appreciate your comment. I'm glad that other people did not take my question as me being lazy vs ignorant to how much info i need to provide.

Where there's a will there is a way. But you have to put forth the effort to let the programs know that the past is the past and you are now dedicated. I would def research programs to figure out what pre reqs they require. Retake any of them that you did not get an A in, get an A this time. Try to find a job in a research university, a degree in neurobio should be able to get your foot in the door somewhere. The recommendations will come in handy.

What area if the country are you in? I worked in research for the past 10 years. If you want advice PM me.

Ok it's not rude to have a difference of opinion. Just because I didn't hand you the answer you were looking for doesn't make it rude. When you post a topic you don't get to dictate what answers you get. I was just trying to point out, multiple times now, that we simply don't have enough info to give you an answer. Only you have that info. Have you even started your pre-reqs yet? Because they're different for every nursing school. See how's there are too many variables? I wish you luck in getting into nursing school, and try to realize that just because I didn't give you the answer you wanted doesn't make me mean. Nursing school and nursing is tough and you'll meet a lot of people who will tell you things you don't want to hear but need to know. Good luck.

While I empathize with your situation, many people have hard situations and still get good grades. I haven't seen my parents since I was about age 14. I lived in a horrific apartment and slept on a couch while getting my two bachelor degrees and worked multiple jobs. When you are applying to schools NO one cares WHY you earned the grades you earned. You have got to take full responsibility for your grades. It is ok...many people don't get perfect grades. They key is learn from the past. Your study habits are not working. If you are so stressed in school that you cannot get better than a 2.47 then really you are wasting your money because it won't do anything for you. Focus on solutions. Focus on growing. You have learned what does not work....this will not be easy, but it is entirely up to you.

OP, with your current GPA, you have two options:

1. Retake classes for a higher grade, or

2. Pay 50k+ for a degree from a shady for-profit college you see advertised on daytime television (typically in the Judge Judy or Maury time slot).

If nursing is truly your passion, I would recommend growing thicker skin and learn to let things slide. You've focused most of your time and energy on criticizing the tone of one (harmless, largely benign) response; clinical instructors will eat you alive.

Hi tinkinspeenurse. Sorry you've received so much hostility on here. I was accepted into a great state school absn program that was really competitive to get into with a 2.49 from undergrad so you definitely have hope! I made a HUGE spreadsheet of all ABSN programs in the country and their GPA and prereq requirements that I can definitely email to you. PM me your email address and I'll send it. FYI, I took 35 units of prereqs with a 4.0 GPA after undergrad and had some amazing letters of req. it may be a longer road for you than others but you can definitely do it even with a low undergrad GPA :)
