Is there such a school that doesn't require pre reqs for the nursing program? Or atleast not as many!?

I doubt it. You need at least a basic understanding of human biology. Many schools require you to finish A&P and Micro before entering the nursing program. My school has them as coreqs, rather than prereqs, but it still requires College Algebra, basic human biology, and English Comp I as prereqs before you can enter the nursing program.

I applied at the Brockton Hospital School of Nursing (diploma school) and they have no pre-reqs. Granted I was supposed to hear from them 3 months ago and never did.....

I ended up going the LPN route. The LPN program I applied to doesn't have pre-reqs and it's 9 months f/t and then the LPN to RN bridge is 1 year part time and neither has a waiting list.

Wow where are you going hopeful? That sounds like something I would be really interested in. Is it hard to get in?

I start the LPN program at Quincy College in MA in Sept and the bridge program I would be starting in Jan.

The LPN application requirements were HS transcript, Nursing entrance exam and $50 application fee. I submitted them on a monday and got acceptance letter on Saturday. That is the full time program.

The LPN to RN bridge. (copied from the website)

Prerequisites:

* Qualified scores in the Allied Health Admissions Test

* Laboratory Anatomy & Physiology I & II (C or better) ** taken during LPN program

* College Mathematics (C or better)

* College English Composition (C or better)

* General Psychology (C or better)

* Laboratory Chemistry (C or better)

* Transcript from Practical Nursing School (C+ or better)

* A Certificate of standing indicating you have an unrestricted LPN license

And the LPN gets over in June and the bridge doesn't start until Jan so theres time to fit in the pre-reqs

email me if you need more specifics - good luck

I guess it kind of depends... when I look at our local ADN programs they show a "typical" schedule of courses that has students taking A&P, micro, psych, etc. at the same time as the clinical courses. But I've heard that it's so competitive you essentially need to have completed the pre-reqs first to have a strong chance of getting accepted. The traditional BSN programs are a little different, I think, since it's a 4-year program and they schedule it so the first year and a half or so are spent doing the pre-reqs before you take clinicals. But again, I'm not sure if in that case they accept students initially as "general studies" majors and then you have to apply separately to the nursing program after you've completed the pre-reqs. I'd check out schools you're interested in and talk to someone there personally, they can probably give you better answers.

check out your local hospitals. There are still some out there that have in house RN programs (not many though). Those programs don't have the Associates Degree attached to them so you wouldn't have all the other supportive stuff added on.

At my BSN program it's 2 years of pre-reqs as a pre-nursing major. Once you are in your last semester of those then you have to apply to get into the clinical sequence. If you're accepted then you're switched to a nursing major in the upper division sequence and then it's 2 more years to graduation. They accept pretty much anyone into the pre-nursing category but are very picky about who gets into the upper division sequence.

are you looking for an lpn school or an rn school? it seems that many of the lpn schools do not have pre-reqs but in order to bridge to your adn/asn or bsn you will have to complete pre-reqs in many cases.

for the school that i just applied to the only true "pre-reqs" were proving that you had completed a year of algebra and chem in hs with at least a "c" and they say bio in hs as well but you actually have to take college bio in order to get into a&p and micro... and you would also have to do well on your placement testing or else you would may have to do some form of enrichment program for either math or english.

but... the points that you earn towards admission are figured from the co-req general education classes you take ahead of time (a&p, micro, eng, psy, etc) so really they are the pre-reqs. you can get in without having them all completed though which is a big help for some. if i do get accepted i will have micro and my ethics class left to take after this summer. micro is a co-req during the second semester and ethics is a co-req during the 5th and final semester. if i do not get accepted these classes will be completed in the fall and i will re-apply next spring for fall admission (the school only does admission once a year).

The school I am attending in the fall has no pre-reqs. You take all of them as co-reqs. Since I already have a BS in civil engineering, I have many of the classes already. The ones I don't have I'm taking now & over the summer so I'll only have nursing classes to focus on in the two years at school. The school is hospital based, and you recieve an Associates Degree.

Hey All

where are all you guys from. Im finding it really hard in the forums to understand all the jargon. (im guessing most from US???)

Well in Australia we have a totally different system. Although nursing is very competitive over here we did not need any Pre-Res for like A & P. How long are your RN courses over there? How many days a week do you go? How many weeks prac do you do a year/or semester???

Just interested! heehe
