Hello!
I would like to seek an advice on this specific dilemma.I have just graduated last march recently took the board exam last June.My school would not like to fill up the necessary forms for my NCLEX application (Request for transcript etc).. The dean is requiring me to first have 1 yr experience here before they will fill up forms for NCLEX and send my TOR to the BON of the State where I am filing. Is there anyway to contest this so-called rule which most of us (my classmates) found out just now when we are applying for the said credentials. Do we have a rule here in the PHilippines that require us to have one yr experience before we can take the NCLEX? I am hoping someone could help me out with this problem. What do we have to do to be able to get our documents and file for NCLEX? Thank you very much.

You need your school to furnish transcripts to the BON for the state that you wish to get licensed in, and that means that they need to receive it before they will even permit you to sit for the exam. There is no dilemma, there is not a thing that you can do about it. And should not even want to. The reason that you went to nursing school in the first place should not have been for an instant ticket to the US.
You need to have said transcripts also submitted to ICHP/CGFNS for the Visa Screen Certificate.
And you are not going to like what I am going to post here, but I commend your Dean for doing this. And this used to be how things were done in the past in your country, even for those that completed a full four year program; they did the year of service afterwards. And that is why the programs from PI in the past had such quite respect in the past. You actually owe something to your Dean for having you do this, it will give you the skills that you need, but may not even know that you need.
What we have been seeing, this has been sorely needed for sometime. Just because you get thru nursing school there does not mean that you have the required skill set under your belt. Many here have not even done any of the things that you should be able to complete with your eyes closed.
Which school did you graduate from?

What school are you from if its ok to divulge it.... my school has no problem with it... So sad to hear your story...
It doesn't mean that if I take the NCLEX now, I would be able to leave the country right after passing. From what I have read in the different forums here, it takes several months to yrs after passing NCLEX befor one eventually gets to work abroad. What I just want to do is take the test while I'm a fresh graduate. If I will be taking time off from studying, I might have a difficult to jumpstart my review for NCLEX. Right after NCLEX is when I will be working here in the Philippines. I've seen people working and reviewing for NCLEX at the same time and afterwards did not pass the NCLEX. They couldn't devote their time to studying alone or to working alone.
I'm sorry, but I cannot state the school where I graduated from.

Where did you graduate? What school? Gov't school or private school?
By saying that you've taken the NLE, it means that you have completed all the academic and clinical requirements of the BSN course and you have no outstanding financial dues with the school.
If it's a private school, then, a violation has been committed and such will allow you to file a case against them. Please seek help from a lawyer and government agencies like CHED and PRC.
Sorry, but I do not agree with any of the above posts here. I am expecting to see more and more schools start this, and I have been stating this for sometime.
Whether you just graduated, or graduated five years ago, you still will be preparing again for the NCLEX exam. It is completely different from any tests that you have ever taken. So wishing to take it immediately before you forget things only means that you memorized things when in school and did not learn them, so that you remember it.
As an RN in the US, you are going to have to know much more information than you ever thought possible, and you will need to retain it in your head, you do not always have time to look everything up.
I like the idea of the one year of experience, but I much prefer to see it in a set program that your school has set ip for you. This is also going to mean that the nurse will be required to pass the NLE so that they can get the one year of experience.
Telling someone to get an attorney to file against a school or someone is not how we do things in the US, not the way to get started. Suggest that you have a talk with the Dean to find out why she has instituted this rule. I would start there. There used to be a one year internship that all graduates went thru in the Philippines, and there was never anyone complaining about it. That is why the nurses in the past from PI had such great authority about them; and could jump into anything situation.
As much as you do not like to hear this, it is a very good thing for you.
Here in the RP, in so many cases, things don't progress until legal action is taken. Many people do not know their rights hence they are being abused by people who think that they are above the law. No one is above the law and there are no sacred cows.
If the he/she graduated from a private school, this case is a potentially winning case(granting that everything is done right). The fact that the dean mentioned that the documents were withheld because of lack of nursing experience nails the case in favor of the student.
If this case prospers, it will be a lesson for all, never to be repeated again. Abuse shouldn't be tolerated.
Most of the time in the RP, the right things happen because of coercion from the court or through example. If this comes out in the news, I'm sure it's going to be sensational.
I graduated from a private school. Thanks for all your suggestions. I will first speak to my dean with regards to their policy. I would ask why we weren't informed earlier about this policy. I believe that we should have been informed of this from time we entered their institution.

I fully agree with John. You're the man!
Do not be afraid when you are on the right path; you've spent years of study just to earn you BSN degree. Don't let them slow you down or hinder you from reaching the American dream.
Sometimes, having an experience before completing nursing exams can be counterproductive especially if you practice on hospitals that do not enforce the strict standards of quality nursing care.
God bless! Please do update us with your case. Thanks.
I went to my school, but wasn't able to talk to the Dean. The office secretary told me that they are just following the rule of the nursing schools association. She could not give me the exact association. I would like to ask if anyone knows such an association with that rule. THanks so much! If it were really indeed a policy of an organization which my school belongs to, why weren't we informed of such a rule ahead of time instead of just now when we will be asking for our files?Anyway, if anyone has info on this, please share..Thanks again..
