Immunization Drama

I am extremely pissed off right now at my secretary, who thinks she's the one in charge.

I'm currently getting my immunizations done for our snapshot for the state. (Texas). I have almost all of them done, I got only 18 no compliant 7th graders and 3 Kinder. I'm calling and she comes in my office because her child is on the list. Before I go on, I went through ALL my records, I didn't see any record of his at all here in my files. I went to his file in the front office, and nothing there either. I got his record online, but it's missing his immunizations for 7th grade, Meningitis and Tdap. I mentioned this to her and she said I gave them to you last year, you should have them. I explained I don't because the only things I got from his file was his screenings, I never got them. She is calling me irresponsible and unorganized. I asked her if she can give me a copy, she said no, I should have them.

I am just trying to do my job, and I'm honestly close to tears.

I'm not sure how to handle her and explain her to just give me another copy and I'll say it's fine.

I always (in the nicest voice I can muster) say " I am so sorry, chances are I could have displaced it. I review a few hundred records every school year. I went through this stack (kept right on my desk until the last record is turned in) twice before asking you for it again." Usually works pretty good when they see how high my stack actually is.

yeah I kinda learned this the hard way. I mean I have 7 years of experience with retail, I know how it feel when people yell at you, but I been super stressed lately that it just effected more than it should.

I am fine today, I held my ground with the parents and co-workers today and I'm just trying to do better.

Be kind to yourself. You are doing your best

So I talked to the mother who yelled at me yesterday and I just let her have what she wanted, an apology even if it wasn't meaningful. She made such a big deal and the manager for all the medical aides had to give her extra time. Well I called her and she's like, "Oh I already got them done. But since you were being nasty, I was very upset." And my AP was like, if she already went to get them done, then why in the hell was she making such a big scene? Really? And she believed me that I was doing my job and I was never mean to the mother, so she told me I am doing a good job and just try my best.

She got what she wanted, she said she'll bring the kid and the record on Monday and that's it. But now she's in my black list and I will not be as cordial as I am with all parents.

Update: after this issue, I had another mother angry. Still currently waiting for immunizations, I talked to her daughter, she basically said that her mother will take her today to the doctor.

As of now, I only got 2 children out of compliance.

Yay on getting that number down to 2! It's no easy task!

I have no idea why parents get all upset about turning in paperwork. They know it needs to be done. Often, they've already had to shots. It's just ridiculous. Seriously parent, you have between 1 and 4(rarely more it seems) to keep track of, I have 400+

^ This 100% I agree.

I forgot to mention that I had a parent yell at me on the 1st, basically screaming at me. I hung up and just started to bawl. My principal and AP came to comfort me and told me I'm doing my job and it's fine. This lady has the nerve to talk to my health manager and say I was being nasty to her, which never did I raise my voice.

And she's the one I had to call and apologize and told me she had the shots done on the day she yelled at me.
