Eclipse concerns

The majority of my K-3 kiddos will be on the bus home when the eclipse peaks in our area. We are at about 85% totality. We can tell kids till we're blue in the face to not look at it, but we all know some will try. Principal wants me to come up with something for parents. Has anyone seen good, age appropriate resources? Or have you sent something similar to your families? Or any tips?

We survived!

I have seen all of my migraine kids today plus a few extras all with the same frontal lobe with radiation behind the eyes headache. (most of them prior to going outside, but after everything started)

So....how did it go?

I have a confession to make. I looked with just my regular sunglasses instead of the super-special eclipse glasses. Fortunately my eyes didn't burst into flames.

One of my friends actually sent me a pic looking at it with a colander. The pics were surprisingly awesome--who would have thought.

What did you schools do on Monday? I've heard that many schools kept the children inside, even during recess, to avoid the risk that kids would look at the sun. They all watched the eclipse on TV.

Did any of your schools let the kids go outside? If so, were you concerned about it?

We had a special schedule so everyone had their recess either pre or post eclipse. But the entire day was STEM themed and during the totality the entire school was outside with glasses on to experience it. The older kids went out at different points during the day to see it building up to a complete eclipse.

I was SUPER anxious that my kinders and 1st graders wouldn't keep the glasses on, but we had enough parent volunteers to help watch and direct them to keep them on that we were fine.

My only injury was a teacher who put on her glasses inside and tripped.

Each class did their own thing. Teachers had parents sign consent forms to learn about it - which I thought was weird & tad bit overboard. We actually had a few kids excluded from the lessons due to religious/personal reasons - again I thought was weird.

probably about a dozen parents signed their own kids out for the 10-15 minutes of viewing.
