Crap! I'd call your BON first thing and just see what insight they can offer. I'd also ask the BON if there will be any schools that would accept you as a transfer if they do shut your school down.

There's actually an "owner" of the school? I'd want to talk to that person face to face and get a vibe there. Hopefully there is so much money in educating nurses now that they will continue on with your class.

There is a difference between accreditation and board approval for the school to operate. You can check with your state board of nursing to make sure that you will be able to sit for the NCLEX-PN, but I don't think you are going to have a problem doing that. But check with the board to put your mind at ease. If the worst happens and you are told that you will not be able to take the NCLEX-PN then I would suggest that the whole group of your students should get together, see a lawyer, and consider filing a lawsuit to recover your tuition from the owner of the school and possibly damages that would cover the cost of tuition to attend another LPN school.

With regard to accreditation, that is a different thing. Accreditation is voluntary and done by organizations other than your state board of nursing. A nursing school doesn't necessarily have to be accredited unless it is something the state board absolutely requires.

Many many years ago the nursing school I started attending closed due to funding. I had one semester left to complete. The school made an articulation agreement with a local university to allow us to finish. Maybe you will not be hung out to dry.

I have never heard of anything like this happening, but I do know people that have, for various reason, had to transfer to a different school to complete their degree. Some times you may have to take some other classes at the school you transfer to. It never happens that all your credits transfer. I think there must be laws against that. Get a copy of your transcript and take it to a admissions counselor at whatever school you are thinking about transferring to and they should be able to tell you what you will need.

I am so sorry this happening to you. That really sucks but don't give up on nursing. The world needs all the nurses we can get.

future of nj vocational school in doubt

the state attorney general's office tells action news that southern new jersey technical school was denied permanent accreditation december 1, 2006 because some of its faculty members are unlicensed and about 20 students have filed complaints about the school. ...

...state officials confirm the school will be allowed to continue to teach and graduate current students.

as long as sbon allowing students to graduate, will be able to take nclex upon graduation. issues state has need to be resolved prior to applying for reaccreditation.

credential and licnese verification huge issue...very each to perform with nj online verification process...i perform license checks almost daily of pa and nj docs as part of my job. first thing state regulators look at when examining our homecare files that staff actively licensed.

tonight local 11pm news 6abc reported that 18 educators let go, only 2 remain, but couldn't locate link.

Wow, that would be hard news to hear. I really hope it all works out for you. If your school doesn't teach you through to graduation, it seems like you should be able to transfer somewhere else. If it were me, I'd be making a LOT of phone calls over the next couple of days!
