has your school done fund raisers? Need ideas to help pay for pinning ceremony

Published

Hello! I was just wondering if you guys had ever had a fundraiser in your nursing program. I am the president of our graduating class and I am responsible for coming up with ideas for fundraisers to help raise the money needed for our pinning ceremony. We need to raise at least 5,000 to cover all the costs. ANY ideas that have worked, are appreciated! Even if it wasnt for nursing school. We live in Texas so its really hot here in the summer to do car washes. bake sales everything melts. we are planning a yard sale, but other than that, I am looking for ideas! thanks in advance!

My whole class did not want to be bothered during the nursing program w/ fundraisers and such, so we just did dues. We have raised about 2000 so far, and that is plenty for a small pinning ceremony and we are able to leave some for the class behind us! I couldn't imagine trying to pass NS, plus organize fundraisers, sell cookies... etc. Good luck!!

I forgot to mention that my current school's SNA puts on a annual Nurses Ball - its basically a fun dance for all the nursing students. We all dress up - usually in a theme color like purple or something and there is a dj, food, dancing, and people taking pictures etc. Sort of like a nursing school prom lol - ok maybe not that exciting but you get the idea. The fund raising part is the silent auction they do during the ball. Everyone goes around writing their bids down for awesome prizes that are donated by local business and by the nursing dept. (if its N.S. stuff like lanyards/hoodies etc.). Also, when your coming in the door you can pay for a $1 raffle ticket and you'll have a chance to win awesome prizes. It made tons of money and it was a great hit! I wasn't personally involved in the planning - just showed up - but I was very impressed and I won a bid for a N.S. hoodie. Great idea if you have the time/energy/resources.

thank you maria, thats a great idea! We dont have any choice but to have fundraisers as are school doesnt pay for anything. SO we are all really trying to think of things that will WORK. we dont want to waste our time with something that just breaks even. Hopefully some of these ideas I can pass on to my group and see what they think!

um, i'm just getting started in the nursing program but.... what the heck costs so much?? i'm not much for ceremony, i'd just as soon skip the whole thing... :uhoh3:

Your welcome :) I hope your fundraising goes great!! Here is one last idea I forgot to mention: T-shirts, sweats, and track jackets are sold by my SNA as well and they are very, very popular. The track jackets are so nice and classy looking - everyone wants one! Yes they are a little spendy, but you see them all over campus and I can't wait to get one. Hopefully you would have the same popularity with this idea. Just mark them up so that you make more off the item than you paid for it. And my SNA has people put down their orders in advance - this way they only order exactly the amount they need/will be paid for and don't loose any money. :)

it just costs a lot for eveyrthing, the hats, the pins, the invitations, decorations, food........im not much for walking across the stage in front of people, but i can guarentee you as hard as i have been working already, my class deserves it! its kinda for our families too...they dont see us much for this whole year, and this is a way to thank them for hanging in there with us! you will never see anyone prouder than the families of those who graduate from nursing school!

is the school name on the jackets or the nursing program name?

It is embroidered in one of the upper corners on the front. For the embroidery, it has a stethoscope in the "shape" of a heart - and it says (as I recall, cause I don't own one yet) in a semi circle around the steth, NMU School of Nursing (our school's name), or maybe just NMU Nursing (can't totally remember). The embroidery can be in a variety of colors and when people are ordering them they can specify if they want Pink, Red, or White embroidery. No embroidery anywhere else. The track jackets are always black - at least thats all I've seen and they are classy looking. No hoods, but modern & professional looking. They also sell Ts and hoodies that say in college lettering: NMU NURSING.

My class did a garage sale with items from students and people that donated stuff. A few nurses did some baking and sold yummies at the garage sale. They made several hundred bucks. We made more than what we needed by the end of the year and donated some to the next class under us, which seems to be a tradition.
