SC New graduate base pay

U.S.A. South Carolina

Published

Hey everyone!

I am going to be graduating in May 2009 from a BSN program. I am looking into relocating anywhere in SC and wanted to see what the base pay was for new graduate nurses and any shift diff that some of you might know. I am really interested in working in a NICU or PICU which I know quite a few hospitals in the state will hire so if you know any with great units that would help as well. With some online research I found hospitals in Columbia are at a base pay of around 19$ which seems a bit low to what I have heard from other parts of the state. Thanks for your help!

Specializes in ORTHOPAEDICS-CERTIFIED SINCE 89.

Looks like $18.90 at Palmetto Health

and L&D at Lexington Medical center is 18.90 minimum

I can't find Providence listing for salaries.

I believe Aiken Medical Center in Aiken, SC pays about 20...thats 60 mi from Columbia and about 20 from Augusta Ga.

The taxes are lower in SC. Housing is a bit lower also. Groceries and gas are about the same everywhere.

Try our states' website Sciway.net for information.

Specializes in LTC, med/surg, hospice.

I think the range in SC is $18-22 base pay for new grads. Add 50-75cents if you have your BSN. If you work nights/weekends..the shift diffs are pretty good most places.

I'm an ADN new grad in Charleston, and Roper-St. Francis new grad base is $22.50/h. I worked on unit for a year prior to graduating and got offered a weekend position that adds $12.00/h to 24h a week (of my 36h). Working nights will also increase your pay by approximately $4.00/h (11p - 7a)... The cost of living is a lot more expensive than anywhere else in SC, but I'm making a ton more money than I thought I would be as a new grad... but then again, it is med surg!! I earn every dollar of that working with total care patients and poor staffing. :)

Also, Weekend only positions for new grads are rare, but if you can start working PRN now somewhere that will definitely help get your foot in the door over your competition.

Specializes in E.R., post-surgical.

Can anyone tell me what hospitals, if any, in the Columbia area allow graduate nurses to work as a nurse?

Specializes in NICU.

All hospitals in Columbia hire new grads.

Specializes in Neonatal ICU (Cardiothoracic).

Spartanburg Regional hires new grads into its NICU.

It's a great one too! I'm biased, since I worked there for a few years before having to move for grad school.

When I left, new grads were starting at around $20/hr days, with $3 more for nights, and $5 for weekends. I also got a signon bonus, relocation bonus and yearly clinical ladder bonus.
