The saunders is a good tool..... Whatever you do read over the sections and to the questions in the book as well as the cd....do some select all that apply too as part of your studying habits. Touch over the medication sections. Look at your systems...be able to link them to disease process...and medications....Labs, if you have something in normal range but on the low side of the norm....red flag. Read your questions afew times. My college also paid for the hurst review....which they came to the school. If you need any other study tips or whatever feel free to hit me up. REMEMBER SOMETHING IS GOING ON IN EACH QUESTIONS....LOOK FOR KEY WORDS. Look at safety, delegation, priority, and isolation....who can room with who. Management of patients....if you have a person that is floating to your floor....even if that have years of exp....you want them to get the most stable out of the pod you are dealing with.
Saunders is great tool. Make sure you read the sections of the book. It will help to connect any gray areas you are having and pull things together, along with doing the cd. Do some select all that apply questions. Review labs...remember if the lab results are within normal range but on the low side of the norm...RED FLAG(as a new nurse). Look at who is stable as far as being able to delegate to the nurse that is floating to your floor it doesn't matter that he or she has alot of exp. Priority who will die first if I don't seem them first. Remember RN's are the only ones that do the admission and discharge because it involes teaching....(I KNOW ThAT LPN's do alot...but on the board its different). Also look at isolation and who can room with who...review your mental health...basic meds but link the to the disease progess...of the body system...cardio, renal, endo, peds, scan ob sections. Remember safety. link your mental patient with your safety section. My college did the live hurst review that is really good too....BUT IF YOU KNOW YOUR CORE MATERIAL YOU WILL HAVE NO PROBLEMS....ITS ALL IN HOW YOU ATTACK THE QUESTIONS. LOOK FOR CLUES. READ ALL THE QUESTIONS AFEW TIMES. AND DON'T FOCUS IN ON HOW MANY QUESTIONS YOU GOT. THE KEY IS TO GET MORE RIGHT THEN WRONG ON THE EXAM. REMEMBER YOU GOING THERE TO SHOW THEM WHAT YOU KNOW. SO DON'T GIVE YOU QUESTIONS AWAY AND PICK THE BEST CHOICE. Every questions someone is crashing or burning......I hope this helps...hit me up if you want more tips
Great advice!! Im doing the book and questions there as well. My main problem area is all the different electolytes and pharma.

Saunders is great for content based review (the rationales are excellent), but I've found that Kaplan is a better tool for learning the strategies to answer the really tough stuff.
