Good morning.
Got up at 6:30 and fed the dogs and went back to bed until 9:00. Having coffee but don't feel too rested. Will hopefully wake up soon and potter about some. Dusting off my Christmas CDs and will be playing Christmas music for the duration.
Off for four days. They are quite short staffed today but I just couldn't help them. Couldn't do it even though I could use some cash. I did a lot of overtime at the beginning of the year, but I think I've reached an age where I just want to do my three 12's and be done with it.
Brrrr! We had a "hard freeze" last night. I think it is supposed to get up to the high 40's or low 50's today. But it is sunny, anyway, not that it helps warm anything up much.
I slept pretty well last night, but got up at 2:30 AM because I wanted some ice cubes added to my bedside drink (I always have a sippy-cup beside me) Well, as I passed by the stairs down to the den, there was Nannie, standing like a ghost at the bottom of the stairs, not saying a word to me. I went down and got her back to bed, after I un-made the bed. She must've been trained from a young age to make her bed the minute she gets up. Anyway, she was kind of zombie-like, only repeating what I said to her, but in a very flat tone of voice. Then we did it all over again at 4:45 AM, this time alerted by my hearing-ear dog telling me something was astir. Wash-rinse-repeat!
Other than washing up last nights dishes, I have no clue about what the day holds.
Yesterday afternoon BiL and SiL came by with the incontinence supplies, and SiL had brought over a small Xmas tree, which she said looked like a Charlie Brown Christmas tree (thin and anemic) until it was loaded with the decorations. She said "I hope you don't mind...." Me? Heck no, as long as *I* don't have to decorate it or UNdecorate it after Xmas! We also now have stockings hung from the mantle, and two poinsettias on placed on either side of the electric fireplace.( Had to reassure Nannie that the flames are not 'real' and we are in no danger.)
Welp have to go do the Nannie routine. Ya-hooooo!
That's nice to have a little bit of Christmas cheer. Other than music, I live in a Christmas-free zone. LOL
Diana's soup came out good. I switched it up some and so it was more like "inspired by Diana's recipe". The store did indeed have tomatillos but I took all they had. They didn't have the Anaheim peppers as I knew they wouldn't and used poblano and jalapeño. I stuck to the recipe except added some garlic, added some epazote and used hominy and black beans instead of chicken. I cut the broth down because I like thicker soups and stews. The end result was very delicious. G loved it too (he's low carb so he had a couple of bowls without the beans).
Send some of that soup to me if there are any leftovers!
It can't be Christmas time YET, because I have not heard "Pa-rum-pum-pum-pum." on the radio or a store's overhead speakers. And, I gotta say.....I still find it hard to believe that the little drummer boy didn't wake up baby Jesus with that racket.
I am just resigned to Christmas being everywhere-all-the-time until the Nooo Yeeer. Well, for now, it's a nice break from "Trum-pum-pum-pum-pum" news. Actually there is no real break from the 12+ tRumpettes trumping. I can't give y'all any SOURCE for that count....it just comes under 'poetic license', I guess. 😛
An-knee-waize, I hope everyone's having a Gouda weekend.

That looks delicious.
Tomatillos are relatively easy to find here. One of the 2 grocery stores in town has a lot of foods that are popular in Mexico. You can get corn husks for tamales, various spices, candies, etc. Anaheim peppers are less likely but poblanos are plentiful. Hubs doesn't want anything too spicy so I do have to be careful.
I am digging out the Christmas music, too. AND I just used the piano to practice tomorrow's choir anthem! Will be locating my Christmas piano music. Poor guys are going to have to hear it.
I need to give the piano a good cleaning. I think being tucked in the corner left it a target for the cats. Ugh.
That does sound like a hellish shift, Tweety. I don't blame you for needing a day off.
Tweety, your version of the soup looks VERY good!! Dh sprinkles garlic salt in his; I can imagine the flavors if the additional peppers are used, with the beans and hominy flavors. W00t!! It has become one of our favorites (I shared it with a friend and she and her dh love it too)!
We listened to Zoom Sabbath School, then I watched the livestream of a local church service. My friend and her dh were in charge of the service's music, which was special, being a Thanksgiving AND a 60th anniversary service for the church! They did a great job with the music: some old hymns, some praise music. Very worship-ful, all.
Then we went out to get Pho soup for lunch, and I remembered (in the middle of the meal) that friends were playing from 1-4 at Oak Glen. So we finished eating and hightailed it up there. Caught the last 1/2 hour of the music, and had a nice visit with the band. Boy, when the sun goes down up there, you KNOW it! It got a little chilly!
We are home now. I have one of two loads of laundry in, cogitating. I need to whip up a batch of the spice cookies, then refrigerate them overnight. The butter is out, softening, and the eggs are out to reach room temperature before being beaten and combined. I will bake tomorrow.
Oh, and we were invited to a jam at Oak Glen tomorrow, from 2-4! Yes, we are going!!
Have a good evening!
I had some very good chicken chili at the restaurant last night, but it wasn't nearly as pretty as yours, Tweety! We grow tomatillos in our garden every year. We plant peppers, but it usually doesn't get hot enough to produce very many.
We took grandson out for a hamburger last night, and he spent a second night at our house. dh took him home this morning. I went for my usual jog, but my calves are back to cramping again. Oh, well, the walk was nice and I saw lots of pretty dogs being walked. I went past the new skatepark and saw a little girl on roller blades, and I suppose her dad on a skateboard. Many people in our town didn't want the city to build a skate park, but I was all for it. I love how people of all ages enjoy it. After my jog, I took our dogs for a long walk. Neighbors are putting up decorations. We will likely put up our tree tomorrow.
I washed and cooked carrots from the garden for the dogs, and finished a jigsaw puzzle we started on Thursday. And I fell asleep watching Taskmaster.

Stars that caregiver certainly seems less than reliable
Ado hope you got some rest today
NJ22 hope you get a chance to relax after hosting Thanksgiving
Dianah J and I saw a stage version of Mary Poppins a few years back
Tweety I hope your next shift proves more manageable
In the morning yesterday went out bird watching. Very few birds to watch and quite cold, but I got a good walk in
Came home and spent a good 2 hours or so researching gifts for the remainder of the family. Bit frustrating at times but did manage to get stuff for everyone ordered. Also went out and got Christmas cards along with gift card boxes (most people are getting gift cards) along with stamps
Rest of the day was quieter, watched The Day the Earth Stood Still, which I hadn't seen before, and Silent Running, which I had seen a long time ago
Today will skip bird watching, as it's quite cold and I am planning to drive to an coffee meet up with the over 50 group in the northern suburbs. Bit of a drive but it looks like a new event and I like to try and attend those. Other than that not much else going on, will not be getting together with dad until his C diff is under control
Going to be colder today, only in the upper 20s, although no snow expected
