Dianah that sounds like an interesting pie

Stars glad they got the prescription sorted out

NJ22 glad the appointment went well

Tweety glad that work was OK

Ado glad the shift has been easy

Was feeling better yesterday.  Definitely need to balance things better, so perhaps this was a needed wake up call and time to reflect

Work was pretty good yesterday.  Exercised after work,  otherwise it was fairly quiet

Today going to do the usual bird watching, a bit earlier than usual.  Might stop at the farmer's market for some jam, then it's bake like crazy, 6 dozen cookies of 3 different types.  Thankfully the dough was already prepared and frozen, so it shouldn't take long.  Not sure how many vestry members will show up for the barbecue but I want to be ready

After that will have my regular lunch with dad and then get my hair cut.  Svengoolie has The Ghost and Mr. Chicken, which is apparently a fan favorite

Should be nice today,  in the upper 70s, no rain expected

Good morning!

Joe, hope you have a good day.  Six dozen cookies is a lot!  Enjoy.

Ado, do you work 3rd shift when you work?  I would find that difficult to work two shifts like that. My first job had no such thing as day shift so if you wanted days you had to do some 3-11 or 11-7.  I chose 3-11 but when I moved I worked permanent nights for 13 years.  Hated switched back and forth.

Some of you may remember my saga with homeowners in that I paid it and then they were liquidated by the state and then had to get new insurance.  Was happy that the state sent me a check refunding the payment I made to the liquidated company.  I thought I would have to fight and go through red tape.  My escrow balance is negative so I'll use some of it to get my escrow up to the minimum cushion required.   The rest can make up for what I spent on Prime Day on luggage and other things.

Off today and heading out for a walk soon and need to mow the grass.  Not much of a day planned.  Hopefully yoga class this afternoon as well.

Have a great day!

Joe, sounds like a good busy day! Enjoy that weather OKC may see a high of 108 today.

Tweety, these shifts are 7p to 7a. I didn't go to the office yesterday so I could rest/sleep. It's still hard (hits me around 3 am) but it isn't as hard as one would imagine which probably reflects my poor sleep habits as a general rule. Hooray for a refund!

Gonna try to get up and be productive.

Hello all!

Joe, what kinds of cookies are you making?  Did you make the dough and then freeze it, or buy it frozen (what a time-saver!).  Sounds yummy!  We still have leftover pie, which needs to be eaten!

Tweety, w00t that you got refunded for the insurance money!!  Enjoy your walk.

Ado, 108 is HOT!  And what is the humidity??  Stay cool.  I mostly worked day shifts -- some evenings.  When I worked Radiology, it was a day shift but we took call every third or fourth week (depending on coverage), for vascular emergencies.

We had a good time at the mountain campground yesterday.  Once we arrived, that is!!  We had lunch with our bassist, then drove to the campground.  Was supposed to be a 30-min drive, but we BOTH missed the turnoff for the campground, and ended up taking a very scenic drive, for the next 20 min or so!  As I explained to our friends (once we reached the campground), we were locked in mortal combat: one wanting to continue to drive, and one insisting we turn around and return to the little town that the campground was supposed to be just outside of.  We pulled over and dh happily had cellphone service, so he called our friends (who also, happily, had cellphone service!), who indicated where we should go.  So we turned around and retraced our route back to the little town, and sure enough, there was the turnoff.  When we'd passed it the first time, we'd BOTH been distracted by various other signs around it, so completely missed it!

Anyway, once we arrived, we delivered the pie and jammed for a bit, then chatted for another bit (and ate pie!), and as the sun was setting, we left for home.  We will return to the campground on Tuesday for jamming with another set of friends.  At least this time we know where we are going. ? ?

The campground, though hilly, is full of very old pine trees, with huge trunks.  And yes, it smells wonderful!  And through the trees, if you are positioned right, you can see waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay down into the desert valley below.  Campers told us it's cool to see the twinkling lights in the valley, at night.  There are two ski areas nearby, whose routes (and chair lifts) are visible on the mountains.

Anyway, we were both tired when we got home, and slept pretty well.  Today we will attend Zoom Sabbath School, then meet oldest ds for a late lunch.  He worked till 3:30am (bartender).  It's his birthday tomorrow (he will be 33), and as he is working then, we wanted to take him to lunch today.  He wanted Japanese food, so we will meet at a local sushi restaurant.  He is doing good things in his life, in his attitude, and we are proud of him and the choices he is making.

It is forecast to be 103 degrees today, humidity 34%.  We appreciate our air conditioning!

Have a good day!

Hubby went out to get our supper. For something different I suggested a restaurant that he later called me about, saying it was closed (I don't think it is; but it LOOKS closed. Their business is now just drive-thru.) Then he suggested a different restaurant in the vicinity and I agreed to that and told him what Nannie and I would want from that restaurant. A few minutes later he called again and suggested another different restaurant, so I told him what we would like from that place. OY!

I can tell by his slow, slurry speech that he has a good bit of booze in him. I sure hope he makes it home alright, and if the last restaurant didn't get his order straight, he'll be p.o'd, and probably call them and say some ugly things.

Nannie and I are watching another Braves game, 4th in a series with the Washington Nationals. She asked if it was the same game we watched last night, and I explained to her that the teams often play each other 3-4 times in a 'series', but no, it's not the WORLD series. (Oy! again.)

I hope hubby doesn't become further drunk. It will really p.o. ME if he falls again. Let us pray he doesn't.

I'll be back by here later----------

Good news on the refund, Tweety! My first job was in a nursing home and I worked all shifts. I hated night shift, mostly due to lack of sleep. My preference was evenings, 3-11. And now, I'm 8-5, for 4 or 5 more months. I am a little worried that I may need to work a little longer so I can use my insurance for heart procedures. I did send my electrophysiologist a note on the patient portal telling her I'm ready to schedule. I think she wanted to talk about it more, but I'm ready to move forward.

Cookies sound nice. But getting weighed twice at 2 different doctor offices have reminded me my weight is creeping up. Will try to avoid carbs and increase activity. And drink more water. I ran an extra mile this morning, and spent some time weeding. Dh has to take some corncobs over to his mom. I have no plan for dinner. Pizza (salad for me) sounds good. I grilled ribs last night that weren't bad, but I had getting meat fibers stuck in my teeth.

Weather has been mild but humid. It keeps threatening rain, but just a drop here and there have fallen.

Stars, my heart goes out to you. I hope your hubby is safe, and can get back on track.

Joe, I know I have seen The Ghost and Mr. Chicken once-upon-a-time. I don't remember that it was particularly good, but I wouldn't mind seeing part of it again, just to compare my youthful opinions with my adult brain. // Hope your big batch of cookies come out well. It has been sooooo long since I've made cookies. My 'specialty' was molasses cookies (sometimes dusted with sugar, other times containing raisins.) Molasses was well liked when we were kids. Molasses went into the Boston Baked Beans, and rather than chocolate milk, we often had molasses milk. One of us even made peanut-butter and molasses sandwiches.

Tweety, Well, hallelujah that you got your $$ back! It's amazing that it could happen with less hassle than expected. I'm glad we don't have an HOA! //Used to HATE shifting shifts! I kind of got out of it by volunteering to work 3-11's every weekend (F-S-S) and most all of the "BIG" holidays. Some co-workers loved me for just that alone.

Ado, Working night shift would tear me up in my guts. I've done it infrequently because of that. The last time I did the night shift, it was PDN. I went to Panera's on my way there and got soup, a sandwich, a dessert, and a BIG cup of coffee; I had to eat something every two hours to keep myself awake and keep my stomach busy. Good thing my patient had a young cat that helped me stay awake by playing. It doesn't bother me to stay up late like until 2 or 3 AM, reading, but I am resting in bed when I do so, and I don't have to pay any attention to anyone, so it isn't stressful.

dianah, I used to ABHOR working day shift in a facility --- because there were TOOOOOO many people around and there was too much stuff going on. Used to be that after supper and when visiting hours (remember them?) were over, the floor felt so much more relaxed. The PM 'routine' could be taken care of at a nicer pace. Eventually I did go to day shift doing PDN, but then THAT turned from 8 hour shifts to 12 hour shifts. And no way would I do 12 hour shifts at night!  Got used to getting up toooo early, in the dark and getting home in the dark. I always liked having a patient who was allowed to go out in my car; it helped the afternoon go by more quickly; several of my former PDN patients LOVED to get out and ride and ride and ride....we would explore roads everywhere. My worst job was in a doctor's office, 9-5, Monday through Friday. When I had to shop or do errands, EVERYONE who worked 9-5's, were out there getting in my way!

j22, if you don't mind me asking, what heart procedure(s) have you got coming up? // Yeah, weighing in at the doc's....Their scale said I am up 8 pounds from what I thought. Well, I would've accepted that I was only 4 pounds over what I thought, but jeez! // After supper, hubby went upstairs and took a nap for an hour and a half, so he was relatively sober by the time he came down to the den to watch the ballgame----> which had a nearly 2 hour rain delay, but is coming to a close now We are ahead 6-3, it is the bottom of the ninth inning and the Nats have two outs, so all they have to do is get 3 more strikes or one out, and the game is over. // Come to think of it, we had a terrific thunderstorm and heavy rain mid-morning.

Braves have won 9 games in a row with the win tonight.

Okay, enough-enuff-Eeenuf!

Hope you can get the procedure scheduled soon.

What does your MIL do with the corncobs???  Hang in there, with decreasing carbs.  You are an inspiration, with your exercise!

No Stars, I LOVE molasses on buttered toast!  And I have a wonderful recipe for Spice Cookies that calls for molasses in the batter.  They are sugar-coated, too, and supposed to go with a Pumpkin Dip recipe.  Haven't made those in awhile, because ya know, when I bake 'em, we EAT 'em!!  ?  And that's no way to lose weight.

We had a nice visit with oldest ds, then brought him home so he could hear the new strings dh put on the double bass (ds plays electric bass).  I sent him home with some of the pie.  ?

No plans for tonight, so far.

Enjoy your evening!

Stars, I am going to my pacer and one of the wires/electrodes upgraded.  And I think the doc wants to do an atrial fib ablation, where they thread catheters into the upper left chamber of the heart and zap or freeze the spots that are causing the a fib. I underwent something very similar 3 years ago.
Dianah, MIL feeds the corn cobs to squirrels. This baffles me, because I think of them as “tree rats”. But she thinks they’re cute.
