Santa Monica College (SMC) Nursing Fall 2016

Published

Hey everyone!

I thought this would be a good place to exchange information with each other about entering the program this fall.

As for me, I received my invite to take the PAX exam in April. SMC is my first choice because I live in the area and I did not pre-Reqs there. I also applied to LACCON (I've been wait listed twice previously), LACC, LATTC, CSUCI, CSULA, and Cerritos.

Hi! Did you end up getting in? :)

Hi! Yes I did. I got my email last week. Did you??

Congrats! :) Yes I did as well! I also was accepted into COC and am waiting to hear back from Pierce. I really liked SMC though when I went to orientation so I'm torn right now. I'm going to go to orientation for both schools and see which one I like better but they were both top choices for me so it will be hard. SMC had a 100% NCLEX pass rate last year though which impressed me a lot.

Ah I see! Congrats! I'm waiting to hear back from County but I did my pre-reqs at SMC so it would be a smooth transition for me. See you at orientation!

Congrats to you both :) can I ask a little about your backgrounds/grades? Just curious how I should stack myself! Thank you!

Congrats to you! :) and off course you can ask! Related Background info: I am a CNA with direct patient care experience and volunteer experience in a ER/trauma center. My GPA is as follows:

Science classes: 3.66 (two A's and a B)

Overall GPA: 3.5 (nothing spectacular)

NLN-PAX: 85 (again nothing extraordinary)

I also took the pharmacology class already and finished all my GE requirements which I think helped my application.

Any other info please ask away! BTW does anyone know if SMC has any relationships with any schools to offer concurrent enrollment in a BSN program?

From what I heard, they severed ties with CSUDH for the concurrent enrollment program. But I recently went on the CSUDH website and you can apply to their Dual RN-BSN program if you have an acceptance letter from a RN program and start classes this summer. As for CSULA, I still need to look into it. But last time I looked, SMC wasn't on their list. :/

Thank you! As for me:

Related Background info: I have direct patient care experience at UCLA RRH and SMH and volunteer experience in the NICU. My GPA is as follows:

Science classes: 3.0 (I received B's in the three major course, A, P and Micro.)

Overall GPA: 3.25 (nothing spectacular)

NLN-PAX: 130 (I believe for SMC minimum passing was 114) PS get the study guide, it's so worth it.

Teas V (I took when I was applying to other programs): 89% overall (for other programs it's 67%)

I also took the pharmacology class already and the dosage/calculations class (extra points on the app) and finished all my GE requirements which I think helped my application.

I did did all my GEs at SMC which made it convienient. I am grateful to get accepted there as it was one of my top choices, as well as made it a smooth transition with transcripts etc.

ask anything else!

Oh wow, I meant 85% for the NLN-PAX haha. I was looking at your score thinking "130% wow!" 85 points wouldn't have qualified me for the program!

I looked into the CSUDH dual enrollment program and even applied but for the first two summer semesters you aren't technically a CSUDH student so you have to pay for all fees (2 classes=$1500) out of pocket or from private loans because you can't qualify for financial aid. Although I could have started this summer and all online which would have been super awesome but I couldn't afford it :/ But yeah it is totally an awesome option if you can afford it.

How was the drug calculations class? I still need to take it.

ohh ha ha. I don't remember seeing a percentage on my report. I just remember looking at my number and making sure it was above 114! Lol. I was sweating bc it was more difficult that the TEAS.

Dosage was good. It's an 8 week course. Very informative. Pharm was much harder so you should be fine. :)

Have you guys gotten a chance to join the FB group for our cohort? :)
