Sanford in Fargo

U.S.A. North Dakota

Published

Hi everyone!

I'm finishing up my last semester of school in Texas, then I plan to relocate somewhere. I've been considering different places but I think I've finally decided on Fargo. I am scheduled for a few interviews next week with Sanford and I have a ton of questions! I was wondering if anyone has advice on how to do well on a phone interview. Is anyone aware of how the hiring process works for an out-of-state new grad? I know new grads are hired in kind of a temporary position at some of the hospitals where I live before passing the NCLEX, and their permanent status is contingent upon licensure. Is that typical of North Dakota? Also, if you have any other useful information about Sanford or the Fargo area that you'd like to share, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Ashme.... apply @ Essentia Health too.. also read the reviews of both hospitals..

Thank you for your reply, CNACJ! I accepted a position at Sanford, but I told my sister to look into Essentia Health for a medical coding position.

I just wanted to update this with my experience so far. As far as the phone interviews went, they were all standard interview questions that can be found with a quick google search. Each interview started out with, "Why Fargo?" and "Tell me about yourself." They wanted to know about prior work history, strengths & weaknesses, and how I've handled difficult situations and conflicts with people in the past. I expected some situational medical questions but wasn't asked any, which may be because I'm a new grad with limited medical experience.

I applied to several units within Sanford on October 23rd, received a call back from HR on the 27th and was told I qualify for 3 positions. She scheduled the interviews for me on November 4th which each lasted about 40 minutes to an hour. Two days later I received an offer for all three positions!

I'll move to Fargo after I pass the NCLEX. I was told orientation lasts about six weeks and I'll participate in a New Grad Residency program that meets once a month for six months where we can discuss questions we have.

Thank you for sharing your experience!

So which position did you get an offer for? I started in the ER at sanford and also worked on 3 South, which is the long-term vent floor.

Actually, 3South is classified as the renal/urology floor. They just happen to take all the non-critical vents.

I will be on 2S, the cardiac progressive care unit. Whichone'spink, how do you enjoy working for Sanford? Do you feel like there are a lot of opportunities to pick up extra shifts (after I finish with orientation, of course). I'm hoping to save as much money as possible this year to save up for a home. Since I'll have a lot more free time than I'm used to, it'd be nice to be able to work a little extra.

Specializes in Cath/EP lab, CCU, Cardiac stepdown.

Honey you can pick up as many shifts as you want on 2south. They are perpetually short staffed. When do you start ?

3south is the medical surgical floor. They get everything.

BON just received my affidavit of graduation on Monday, so hopefully I'll have my ATT within a week. That was the turnaround for the students from my school who were lucky enough to have had theirs submitted before the holiday break. My tentative start date is Jan 25th, so long as I am licensed by then.

I work 3 South. My badge says med/Surg, but we are the primary renal/urology floor.

The opportunity for overtime is plentiful on just about any floor.

Hi, what are the incentives for picking up overtime. Is it just 1.5x wages or there is some kind of bonus?

Thank you in advance.
