San Jac Central ADN Fall 2017

Published

Hey everyone! I thought I'd start a thread for those who plan on applying to San Jac Central's ADN Program for Fall 2017. I know applications aren't being accepted yet, hopefully they'll post dates soon, it says "to be announced" on one protion of the website, and then it says Feb 2-April 2 on another portion.

As for me, I'm eager and ready, done with all prereqs and my Hesi. Here are my scores:

Comp I: C (Failed it years ago and retook recently and made an A)

Psychology: A

AP1: B

AP2: A

Micro: B

Overall GPA 3.22

Hesi A2 Exam: 89.6% overall, planning to retake the exam to see if I can do even better.

How did everyone do? Best of luck, hopefully we will be studying together come August!

I also plan to apply to Alvin but doubt I'll get in because they are so selective.

I just completed my BLS/CPR class today. Ended around 5pm. Just glad that's behind me now. Gonna upload the proof tonight.

Welp...On to the next thing on the list.

Specializes in CNA.

Do you guys know if the nursing council only goes based off of the rubric? My score isn't really that great, I am sitting at a 17 depending on my GPA.

Awesome! The way I look at it, it's one last thing we need to worry about when we get into a program!

If any of you need BLS shoot me a private message. I'm actually teaching a BLS class right now...well the video is at the moment:up:

Maaaaan, if I would've known I'd have taken it with you, dude. Lol

Just dropped off my application at SanJac. They don't sit down and go over your packet like at HCC when you drop it off. They said they don't have time for that. :roflmao:

Just thought I would stay updated with you guys once they start sending out letters. I turned my application in on Tuesday 04/11/17. They did sit down with me and go over it. Maybe it just depends who you have (I am last name L-Z), and what their schedule was at the time.

I went to the other office and spoke to someone in there. I told her that I would like to review the packet to "make sure my i's were dotted and t's were crossed" but, she said they don't do that and that it's the applicant's responsibility.

I'm gonna follow up on Monday though.

To those wondering why they have you jump through hoops, I think it is because they try and instill early that you are personally responsible for completing assigned tasks. Just a heads up you will have a roughly 10 chapter test the second week of class so you get an idea of what nursing school is like. Passing grade is a 75 and by no means are the chapters trivial.

For those applying pay close attention to how you calculate your gpa, and your rubric score along with completing all medical requirements and background promptly.

Additionally for them having a larger program compared to many of the other schools their NCLEX pass rates are above 80 percent, where HCC almost failed to keep certification.

I also want to to clarify that you only get a max of 3 points for an A for the classes with labs not 3 points for lecture and 3 for lab. Just thought I would mention to help anyone searching how to calculate their scores.

When they extend their deadlines it is because they want to have a buffer of applicants because they know many applicants apply to numerous schools, fail to meet clinical requirements, background checks, drug test, health insurance, or fail to register for classes because of financial limitations. So you would expect for 80 slots they would extend application till they have over 300 applicants and you would expect 200 to be competitive enough.

I would also like to add cost for first semester books and uniforms are over 1000. When accepted their is a mandatory orientation that if not attended will disqualify you for the program, you will receive schedules for class registration and information on where to purchase nurse packs and clinicals site specific information like training modules. Depending on instructor and course, tests are every two weeks with minor deviations, nclex format and remediation required for failed tests. Quizzes are due every week. You will cover 2 books of roughly 40 chapters in the first 8 weeks covering nursing fundamentals like nursing process, care planning, charting etc. you will also cover assesment techniques, nursing diagnosis, med calcs and administration. Good luck to all those that make it in you have a lot of work ahead and application process will seem unremarkable.

Castlebranch is complete, application is in. I'm letting out a sigh. Now...it's time to wait. :smokin:
