I dropped off my application in person on Dec. 10th....and no word back yet, yes or no. I have kind of given up all hope of a "new grad" spot at this point, it is just absurd how many awesome new nurses are out there, and every one of us wanting to be of service and to keep learning. Let's keep our chins up! Onward...

I also have yet to hear something back from the VA, positive or negative. It was stated in the application that it would take 30 days to process, so we should be hearing something soon. The fact that some people have already heard "Sorry not selected" means to me that no news so far, is "better" news. The program starts next month so my assumption is that once the calls go out to people, that the interviews and selection process will be fast.

Dear New Graduate Applicant,
On behalf of the Department of Nursing Education, I am emailing to thank you for your interest in a VA nursing career. This was an unprecedented year for us as we received over 1200 applications for eight positions.
Your application was thoroughly screened and considered. I'm sorry to inform you that were not selected. Due to the enormous volume of applications, we are unable to provide individual feedback.
It is not known if there will be a second training program in 2011. Hiring at our facility is currently on hold due to financial constraints. Please check VACareers: Search for The Best Careers at the Department of Veterans Affairs for future announcements.

good luck to all.
let me know how the rest of the process goes

Hello Everyone,
I just joined allnurses to contribute information for others. I really love this site. It has kept me so informed about different new grad programs. I have been following this thread since the San Francisco Veterans Affair posted their new grad program for 2011. I had a panel interview with them the 1st week of January. The interview was tough but I felt really good afterwords. However, after weeks of waiting with no word, I finally received an email last week stating that they have canceled the new grad RN program all together due to budget constraints. I really had my hopes set on this VA job. So anyways, for all those who never received an email, you don't have to wonder anymore.
Onward for all those still looking for work!

Hey to the person whom got the panel interview, do you mind me asking what your qualifications are?
I'm sorry to say but I might be one of the reasons why the new grad program has been cancelled. I filed a case against the VA about veterans preference violation. I believe that instead of justifying not hiring me, they may have just easily done away with the positions. I've read that this happened before.
My case was that I'm a Veteran with 10% service connected disability, that should of put me at the top of those being considered. All I got was a rejection email. I also have my BSN & ACLS.
I'm still fighting the case, because I believe its very wrong that they should do this. I know federal budgets and they get their funding info in October, so I believe this budget excuse is BS.
