  1. I dropped off my application in person on Dec. 10th....and no word back yet, yes or no. I have kind of given up all hope of a "new grad" spot at this point, it is just absurd how many awesome new nurses are out there, and every one of us wanting to be of service and to keep learning. Let's keep our chins up! Onward...
  2. Thanks so much to all of you who replied to this thread. I might (MIGHT!) be getting a SNF job here in the Bay Area...if a phone conversation goes well tomorrow. I feel both scared and encouraged by all your advice. Best wishes to everyone here, and I will definitely put into practice the list-making advice and the "Have to, Need To, Want To" prioritization strategy. Thanks again.
  3. I just took the NCLEX today, and it shut off at 75....so nice to be able to come on here and read all your kind words. They may have been directed at someone else, but our circumstances are the same and it made me feel better :) Thanks to all of you who have posted in support of those of us waiting to hear the (hopefully great) news. You are kind people. :) Now we wait........
  4. It stopped at 75...I'm in CA, who knows how long it will take before I get the results. You can be sure I will be obsessively checking the website Congrats to all you nurses who passed with 75 on your first try! Hopefully I will join your ranks.......
  5. Good morning CameronRex, Yeah, College of Marin is also a lottery system. I applied last year, and believe me it stings when you are at the top of the class and your (academically) mediocre classmates are admitted. What a wierd system. Bah! Sounds like with letters from UCSF doctors that you must have some bedside experience---have you thought about PA school? UC Davis has a great one. My understanding is that admission to PA school requires a certain number of hours working in a medical environment... Have a good time with your family--surround yourself with supportive people, and be good to yourself. This IS hard.
  6. wow, CameronRex...first of all, thanks so much for your detailed comments. I am totally shocked that with your volunteer experience and re-working of the goal statement (with insider help) you didn't get an interview. It makes me think that those 90 people who did get interviews must be "even more" stellar in what they put forward. Meaning that ALL their applicants must be pretty amazing. Damn...what is your next plan? Are you applying to community colleges, too? I am. College of Marin gods, smile upon me... Best of luck to you, seriously.
  7. :icon_rolleyes: THE DREADED THIN ENVELOPE....it is mine. Wah....after crying my eyes out (I'm not done yet), I will take my own advice and focus on what's next...and what options are open to me now that I know what I'm NOT doing. Sigh...it's not easy to hear that your "package" is so not-compelling that they don't even want to talk to you! It's been fun commiserating and guessing and hoping and waiting with you all--good luck with everything! It would be awesome if you keep posting as you progress through the program--so many are curious as to what it's like. And with luck, maybe I will see some of you there in a year.....
  8. You know, there are a few people posting on this forum who got into UCSF on the second try. If you're up for it, you might think about putting some thought into (or asking them directly) what you might do to be more competitive next time. That's my plan, anyway, if I too get the thin envelope. It's hard not to get discouraged after all this work and waiting. But who knows what excellent things might happen because you DIDN'T get in this year? :)
  9. That is a trip, I totally misinterpreted that bit...I thought everything had to be done before they offer you admission...it was a bit of a time crunch to do all my pre-req's by the end of this semester, but now I'm glad they are OVER! Only two hours before I can go check my mail...eeek
  10. That first letter they sent out, didn't it say something about notifying us if they needed supplemental materials? I wonder if, after a successful interview, they ask you to submit your transcripts for any unverified pre-req's?
  11. That is so strange to me...I guess they could potentially base their judgement of readiness for graduate-level work on a person's GRE scores and grades from undergrad in non-science courses. You would assume, though, that they might be concerned if an applicant got C's in all their hard science/math pre-req's. Hmmmmm. What do you guys think they are looking for? I go back and forth in my mind about whether or not I think I'm a competitive applicant! (Current mood: cautiously optimistic) ...and thanks for the encouragement and for posting info from your finalist letters. Very interesting... :)
  12. hi chickpea, check out the thread called something like "Any UCSF MEPN Applicants?" (search on UCSF MEPN)---apparently the letters went out yesterday!! Some people from the Bay Area have heard, although I haven't yet (I'm in Marin County, just over the golden gate bridge from S.F.). Good luck :)
  13. Holy crap...8-4pm...no pressure there...hehe. I bet anything you'd feel comfortable wearing to a job interview would be fine. OK, time for me to make some pizza--'night all, and congratulations again!!!
  14. I forgot to ask before--does it say anything about the difference between the two interviews, or just that you have to do it? Does the letter say anything else interesting that you'd like to share? (Living vicariously...)
  15. :balloons:CONGRATULATIONS!!!!:balloons: That's so great, you guys. This definitely calls for a margarita. Or have you not taken your anatomy final yet, Nat3433? (Still no word for me here in Marin...grrrr....)
