San Francisco State University (SFSU) Entry Level Master of Science in Nursing (ELM) Fall 2024

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi! I wanted to start a thread for SFSU ELMSN applicants for fall of 2024. I'm actually a current student who began the program in fall 2023 and wanted to provide a place to answer any questions applicants might have about the program. Our application cycle didn't have any connection to those further along in the program than us when we applied, which made it difficult to find information. So please reach out with any questions, concerns, or to connect with other applicants!

Hello everyone! I am late to the thread, but it's nice to finally meet you all. I was wondering if anyone has heard about any updates waitlist wise? I am in the adult/gerontology concentration.

Hi,

Welcome to the thread! I reached out to the School of Nursing to check on my waitlist status. They mentioned that they're in the process of finalizing their list of 20 admitted students, and they hope to have it done by the end of this week. I'm waitlisted under the Public Health/Community Health specialty, and I'm really close to the top of the list. I hope we'll receive some good news soon.

There's always people who back out after accepting too, especially since this program doesn't require a deposit to hold your spot like some do. So all hope is not lost once the list is 'finalized'. There were people admitted into my cohort days before classes started, one literally the day before our first day.

Thank you both! I hope they are able to let us know soon as well. It's for sure hard waiting around and hopefully we don't have to wait that long. Hoping for good news and putting out good vibes for everyone.

Thank you so much @sarahk09 for sharing your experience and offering words of encouragement! That's really helpful to know that people can still be admitted even after the list is finalized. This gives me more hope and more patience 😊.

Of course!! They want to ensure the program is full so they will make sure that happens. A lot of the admits have been admitted to other schools as well and will wind up choosing other programs, even after accepting offers. So not all hope is lost!

And if you partake in recreational activities like smoking weed and you're on the waitlist, I'd recommend abstaining until end of August because you will need to be drug tested ASAP if you're admitted late.

Thanks, do you feel like ages and race is pretty wide ranged

do you know when drug testing is done for those who have been admitted already?

Please read my previous posts in this thread about this.

If you're admitted you'll get an email with a timeline for when you need testing done. It's sometime in the late Summer. I'd recommend stopping any illegal substances now to be safe.

@sarahk09 do you know what exactly is the total cost of the entire 3 year program? I have been trying to calculate it but the numbers Im getting is really high and probably more accurate for their old accelerated program. Im trying to debate whether or not 3 years is worth the wait compared to other programs that allow me to get my license faster. Thanks for all the guidance by the way.

It's just about 30k. 10k per year, 5k per semester. Crazy affordable when compared to similar programs. I paid for this first year entirely out of pocket. It's worth the wait considering you won't have substantial debt to pay off as soon as you start actually nursing.

I see that it is way more affordable than I would imagine... Im on the waitlist and because I don't know how exactly theyre choosing people, Im trying to have hopes but also being realistic at the same time. And currently debating whether or not I should wait to apply for the next application cycle or just apply for private schools. But ultimately that would be a whole more 4 years til I get my license.... Versus school of one year and having work experience already despite some debt... thanks Sarahk09 for your input tho

I have looked at the Road Map for the program and wondered how it worked exactly. When your accepted into the program do they say you need to take certain classes in order (like your following the Road Map for Semester Fall 1) - and take all those classes in that semester.

I guess what I am trying to ask is when you get in do they already put you into the classes? Hopefully that makes some sort of sense!
