San Francisco State University (SFSU) Entry Level Master of Science in Nursing (ELM) - Fall 2024

Published

Hi! I wanted to start a thread for SFSU ELMSN applicants for fall of 2024. I'm actually a current student who began the program in fall 2023 and wanted to provide a place to answer any questions applicants might have about the program. Our application cycle didn't have any connection to those further along in the program than us when we applied, which made it difficult to find information. So please reach out with any questions, concerns, or to connect with other applicants!

Thank you for replying!! Yes this is helpful. I also saw some of the breakdown. But I got charged for housing too even though Im commuting and not housing with them. How about you though? Do we still have to pay around this much if they're quoting that?

sorry for dumb questions but thanks again

What do you mean you "got charged" for housing? You don't pay for housing through SFSU unless you live in SFSU housing. Tuition is about 5k/semester. Books and supplies are expensive and not included in tuition cost.

I think that's only if you decide to get housing through sfsu such as dorms or any of their off campus housing. So if you're commuting you should only be worried about paying tuition and books/supplies and transportation there. I also have a bunch of questions but mine are more based on class scheduling to let my job know if I am able to go part time or per diem.

Thanks, I thought so too! And yeah same, hopefully orientation answers a lot of questions for us.

I just was accepted today! I got off the waitlist! I am so excited and nervous!

Congrats! Orientation is so soon! Also don't be nervous everything will be great.

Hello, I'm applying for Fall 2025 & I'm interested in learning the specifics of the program if anyone can please share? I can't find additional info on their website or anywhere about clubs ELM students can join or any niche things about the school? This would help with my why for SFSU. Thank you so much!

Hi! I suggest you read through this thread, as I've answered many questions about the program throughout it. If you can't find the info you're looking for, feel free to ask me a new question, but due to my limited free time I won't be answering repeat questions. In terms of clubs, I'm not familiar with any besides the NSA (nursing student association) and I can't think of any niche info that sets the program apart. It's a typical nursing program. Thanks for understanding and good luck!!

Hi Sarah!

I recall early in the thread you mentioned that you can switch specialties- have you done so? if not, do you know more information about this or if students have done it? I have not seen many programs that ask to pick a specialty, what does that mean in terms of classes?

Thank you!

Hi, good luck in the program!!

was there an interview within the process, and how much was the rate per unit?

no interview. unsure of cost per unit, but total program cost is around 35k.

I have not switched, but a handful of people in my cohort have. the reason you pick a specialty is because it prepares you to be a cns in that specialty. everyone besides the admin track take the same exact classes regardless (admin takes some business classes as opposed to advanced med-related classes)

hi I just accepted my admission for fall 2025,

was reading that there's no interview process nor any testing?

just wanted to see how selecting the courses required go about? also what happens after you accept? just genuinely shocked abt there not being interviews

also I got in for nursing administration and didn't realize I would want to change my speciality so soon, I was reading your able to switch after the first semester, is it possible to change from admin to a different specialty?
