San Francisco State University (SFSU) Entry Level Master of Science in Nursing (ELM) Fall 2024

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi! I wanted to start a thread for SFSU ELMSN applicants for fall of 2024. I'm actually a current student who began the program in fall 2023 and wanted to provide a place to answer any questions applicants might have about the program. Our application cycle didn't have any connection to those further along in the program than us when we applied, which made it difficult to find information. So please reach out with any questions, concerns, or to connect with other applicants!

What number are you?

Interesting... I wonder if peds is a new option, no one in my cohort is a peds specialty

does anyone know of someone who got accepted to the program under the women's health concentration that will be declining the offer?

You guys are gonna drive yourselves crazy trying to figure out if people with the same specialty are denying their offers- who knows how many of each are even in the original 20, it's not an even split. Some of the specialties in our cohort have only 2 people while others have like 8-10. Trying to figure out who chose what and who's turning down offers isn't gonna get you closer to knowing if you're gonna be accepted

Do you know what the 2 people chose as their specialty?

@RayKen00 if you can, let us know if you get an offer email from them this upcoming week! Thank you 🙂

I'll be sure to keep you all updated! Sending lots of positive vibes and good luck to everyone on the waitlist 🍀😊

Lolll thanks Sarahk09 for adding this, it gives me a better picture of whats going on but also at the same time now im just confused why they even give numbers on concentration then... cause if lets say 5 people are #1 on the waitlist... how do they choose who to admit? Do they reevaluate those 5 again? and then move onto the #2's? Sighhss.... but you are right about this... no point in overthinking at this point... whatever happens, will happen.... what's meant to be, will be....

That is even more interesting info! Because I heard from my friend who is currently in their ABSN cohort say that the school kind of messed up (one of)? the MSN's cohort (Class of 2025.. I think) since the school didn't/forgot to renew some sort of credentials for other specialties, and that group was forced to transition over to ones that were available (public health, pediatrics, adult/gerontology).....

Getting accepted is a total crapshoot in general, there are way more qualified and outstanding applicants than there are spots, so I really just think it comes down to luck and not rhyme or reason.

Hmm maybe they're referring to there no longer being a women's health CNS option, but that's not the schools fault that's a change in the state licensure/certification. Those in my cohort who chose women's health are able to change if they want to get that CNS cert.

Oh I see, thanks for all the comments Sarahk09. Thanks for replying to all of us and providing us with guidance. I hope everything works out for all of us :,)

I just found out that I am number 1 on the waitlist and wanted to know what's the likelihood that people get in when they are on the waitlist. What was your experience?

I was an original admit but I'd say about half of my cohort was admitted off the waitlist.
