As far as LTC and nursing homes, look at Mountain View Nursing Home which is in Sylmar. There's also All Saints Healthcare in North Hollywood and United Cerebral Palsy in Chatsworth.

Hi, congrats on becoming an lvn. I too needed to get some experience when I graduated, so I decided to apply at snf's. What part of the valley do you live in and are you willing to drive a little? Well I applied at Casitas Care Center in G.H. A LTC on Ventura Blvd, and Pineridge Care Ctr in Sylmar. All 3 called me back, but I went for the one in Sylmar. But, I didn't like it. I needed more one-on-one, so I now work in home health and love it. You won't have a problem finding work in the valley there are so many places to work at. GOOD LUCK!!!
All Saints...thanks for the suggestion, but not thanks. I saw some bad stuff there as a student and I don't think it will be the best environment to work in.
Well I live in Burbank so I'm willing to commute as far as 15-20 miles.
Anything perticular about Pineridge that you didn't like? I have that on my list of "potentials".
I was the charge nurse when I was working at Pineridge one day, and I had a pt that looked like he wanted to tell me something but was to embarrased to tell me what he needed even after I asked. When I came back in the room to give him his noon meds he literally broke down and wanted to talk to me, but I was so busy. The phone was ringing, the cna's were telling me so and so needs there pain meds, and I had to do my charting. I felt so bad, so I listened not even for 5 min. then I got paged by the DON and she chewed me out for MIA, I tried explaining, but she didn't care. I stopped working there soon after that. But at least I left there knowing I was able to help my pt c his problem. And that's why I went into hoome health- for the one on one care, and I love it. Well if your in Burbank aren't there a lot of LTC facilities? Just get your phone book look under nursing and start calling, they'll tell you to come in like they did to me. Let me know what happens.
