Anyone have any good info on new grad programs in San Diego? I'm doing all the reading I can, but it is always good to hear from others. I graduate in December and moving to San D from out of state. Any info from those who have "been there" would be great! Thanks.
eandgsma,
Thanks!! I am really excited but at the same time very nervous as I have no clue where is the clinical going to take place. Because of that I found a place to stay around University Avenue, does it close to the sharp main campus? Please give me some idea......you know it is a big thing for me moving from NYC to San Diego!!!-_-.....and do you have any idea that they will hire the student who graduate from this BSN program?
Thanks!!
Angela
University Ave is not far from the main hospital campus. It is a big deal to move from NYC to SD! I am originally from NJ, just across the GWB, moved to SD 13 years ago when I got married.
As far as hiring...I have NO idea. I know they like to hire people that are already trained in their hospital. I am an extern right now and I have been getting hints that they want to hire me once I graduate in December. We'll see!

Hi,
I actually went to visit a counselor for the Accelerated BSN program and it seems like they are more likely to hire you since you are going to do your clinicals at Sharp Cabrillo. That's my opinion. I'm going to apply to the accelerated BSN this fall. How long did it take for you to hear back from them?
In terms of how far university ave is from sharp, it depends on which part of university ave you are located on. its a long street. you should google it to see the distance.
Hi insuelin,Thanks for your info! well it depends on how fast you can send them all your transcripts....if you have everything ready, you may hear from them 3-4 weeks. Best of luck!

Thanks for the quick reply. What made you decide to apply to a nursing program in ca? Good choice though cuz SD weather is the best.
Which SD hospitals have new grad NICU programs? I graduated in Texas in May 07 but am probably moving to SD (hubby in Navy) this Dec. I did my transition clinicals in a level III NICU in the tx med center so I have a little experience w/ the NICU. If you have any recruiter contact info, please PM it to me. Thanks so much!
Here is the link to the website. Right on the jobs home page is the link for a preceptorship in NICU Good luck! :)

Angela,
Congrats on being accepted into their program! I like working at Sharp. I work at the women's hospital so the culture there is probably different than at the main hospital or some of the other hospitals. On the two floors I've worked on I have had great support from the other nurses as well as management. Tuition reimbursement is arond $1000/yr for full time staff. The living standard is probably about the same as LA, very slightly less than SF. If you are looking for an area to live, check out Mission Valley. Its close to Sharp main campus and very centrally located. PM me if you have any other questions.
