San Antonio Texas wages......

U.S.A. Texas

I'm a ccu nurse with about 9 years experience and was offered a position in a San Antonio hospital (travel nurse) for $19.00 an hour. I just about fell over. Are wages that low in San Antonio?

Hence the reason I live in Dallas.

However - Housing is DIRT cheap in SA - you can get a 4000 sf house for about 175k there!

I knew housing was cheaper but I guess I was expecting about 24-25 dollars an hour which is still a lot less then what I'm making in Chicago.

Thanks for your response

What is the appropriate starting wage for Dallas area new RN? Just curious as this is where I am just starting school. Any info would be great.

I dont know about starting wages for new RN's - I have been out of school 13 years.

It also depends on the area you work, the shift you work and whether you are contract or perm.

i can top that one dazzle. an agency offered me $15.00 an hour to take a 13 week travel assignment to kansas city, mo! :uhoh3: i'm sure you know the reaction i gave them. :rotfl: thus...i'm still searching for a decent wage to make traveling again worth my while.

i don't see a lot of money in travel nursing either. so far i haven't found anything worth leaving my husband and dogs for. i guess if i went to california or something and stayed in their housing. my 20 year old son just left for the military so i thought i'd travel around a bit to try and find another place to homestead. i'm looking at texas or arizona. we are in wisconsin now and the weather really bothers my husbands arthritis. $15.00 dollars an hour is a joke. i made more money then that in mid 90's as a new grad.

:p I live in very rural Kansas, practically middle of nowhere and am getting 18.50/hr day shift and 19.23/hr night shift. Cost of living here I'm sure is much cheaper. I just bought a house for 35k and it's very nice only about 1000 sq ft., but with oversized 2 car garage, storage shed and on 4 lots-so I have a huge yard-something I really wanted! :)

Sounds like the house that is for sale across the street from me here in Wisconsin. They are asking $145,000. You can't buy a vacant lot here for 35K.

What part of Kansas are you from? I was born in Kansas and have a lot of relatives there.

Hi there,

I live in San Antonio...I do know there is an agency that does contract nursing/travel called intellistaff. They work with all the hospitals here in San Antoe. To work for them at Wilford Hall Medical Center ( Air Force Hospital) they pay $31.00 an hour.

Do you work for Intellistaff? What are the other hospitals like in San Antonio? I'm thinking of moving to the area but would like a staff job.

Wages in San Antonio are much higher than that, I'm a ICU RN and I work for an agency here is SA and I think the lowest an ICU RN makes at my agency is $34/hr and it can go as high as $41/hr. Sounds like your agency is fooling you.
