Samuel Merritt University ELMSN-CM Fall 2013

U.S.A. California

Hi Everyone,

I started a thread a couple of days ago but the title was vague so I hope this attracts more readers and future SMU applicants! I am applying for the Fall 2013 cohort for case management and wanted to start a thread like other cohorts to meet other applicants and support each other during the "waiting period"! :) This is my first time applying to grad school/nursing program so everything is new, exciting, and terrifying! I am finishing up my BA in Human Development and hope to continue on towards my dreams by getting into this program.

Hey all,

New to this forum and just wanted to get in contact with people who are in the same boat as me. I received an email from Anne Seed and she said that applications weren't going to be reviewed by the faculty until several weeks after Karena is back from her leave of absence, which won't be until early January. I had to e-mail her my teas scores because I took the exam after the application deadline. Here's to waiting at least another month until we here about the interviews :dead: :arghh:

Hi! Glad to meet another applicant. I received the same email and although it seems like a long wait now that we have a timeline the wait should be less gruesome! :) I appreciate that they have us an idea of when we would hear back as it takes a little if the anxiety and stress out of the whole waiting period. I hope we all hear something by January!

Hey everyone just trying to keep the thread alive! Is anyone still in school? I am in my second to last quarter (I graduate in June!) and I can tell that January is going to fly by. Of course having a full time school schedule helps me forget about the wait. I wonder if less people applied this year compared to last years ELMSN CM program? What are you all doing to help make the time pass?

I'm on vacation right now, just trying to pass the time! I am anxiously waiting the call or email to see if I got an interview!!!!

I work full time so that sort of helps make the days go by faster but I have a habit of checking my email every 20 minutes lol but a lady that works in admissions told me the CM program have about 40 applications. Not bad at all so I figure they pick 24 then put a good handful on the waitlist. Keeping my fingers crossed for all of us :)

40 apps?! That is nothing compared to what I thought. It definitely won't hurt our chances :woot: Fingers crosses for sure! Since it is such a small pool of applicants I wonder if we will start hearing from SMU this month?

I wonder how many applicants there are for the family nurse practitioner tract. That is what I applied for. Hopefully around 40 as well :)

Hopefully we find out soon cause I can't take this wait. I'm pretty sure the FNP received over 100, I was going to apply for that one then I had to think about it "How competitive is my GPA to other people applying" CM it is lol

I talked to admissions last week. FNP got over 275 applications... and I heard a similar number for case management of about 35...so 40 sounds about right. Good luck everyone. The admissions counselor is back and just getting throught all the applications!

Wow... over 275 apps?? :woot: It's making me so nervous!

Good to hear there are similar numbers reported for the Case Management application pool! It is January 12th and were are almost halfway through the month...can hardly believe it, let the :nailbiting: begin! What made you all choose SMU and nursing? I live in Oakland and going to school at SMU would be optimal due to no commute and I have a family so packing up and moving is not an option. I also have heard wonderful things about SMU and its facilities and staff. I have been pursuing nursing since I graduated from high school and it has taken quite some time and detours along the way but I am finally knocking on the door of my life long dream career field. How about everyone else?

I chose SMU because I like the programs it has. Besides SF State the other schools I looked at only had clinical nurse leader programs and I wasn't interested in that. I too have been wanting to pursue nursing since high school but nursing schools are so competitive, so I just had to take other routes. I tried applying to PA schools as well and didn't have any luck, so we will see if I have any luck this time around.

275 Apps!!! That makes me really nervous. Does anyone know what SMU really looks at? Is the last 60 units the most important, TEAS, or cumulative gpa? SMU is definitely my number one school because of its location and its well-established program. I am from Santa Cruz and have been wanting to move to the bay area and it is close enough that going home won't be a hassle. I always knew I wanted to work in the medical field, but after some experiences, I have come to realize that becoming a nurse practitioner is the path I see for myself.
