Samuel Merritt University ELMSN-CM Fall 2013

Published

Hi Everyone,

I started a thread a couple of days ago but the title was vague so I hope this attracts more readers and future SMU applicants! I am applying for the Fall 2013 cohort for case management and wanted to start a thread like other cohorts to meet other applicants and support each other during the "waiting period"! :) This is my first time applying to grad school/nursing program so everything is new, exciting, and terrifying! I am finishing up my BA in Human Development and hope to continue on towards my dreams by getting into this program.

I remember how nerve wracking it can be! Take it one day at a time and remember this feeling because once you do get in, you'll be amazed how fast a year flies by. The program is AWESOME. If you asked me a year ago about how much knowledge I would gain and what skills I would have attained, I would've laughed! The program is really top notch and I have nothing but good things to say about the instructors. This semester has been great and has pushed me past things that have previously made me nervous (giving shots, IVs, etc). Hey, maybe use this stressful time to develop good relaxation techniques to use during school! =)

Thank you xzalense....great advice!! I'm excited to hear from SMU and having people in the same predicament as me is amazing cause I know I'm not alone:)

I'm so nervous!!! Calls have been going out for fnp and I have not received one yet. Does anyone know when is the final day they would call? The first interview date is this weekend already.

Hi xzalense!

Thanks for your advice and support! I have a few questions regarding the program. How are the interviews conducted for Case Management? What types of questions were asked? A couple of people from last year mentioned there was there a writing sample/prompt, is there one? Also are the two cohorts (FNP and Case Management) mixed during the first year of instruction or do they remain separate throughout the program? One last thing (sorry!) how soon were you able to figure out the financial aid piece (specifically the Grad Plus loan) before the program started? I am worried that there is so little time to figure things out between acceptance and start of program. Thanks for any answers you can give, I really appreciate your input!

I can't say anything for CM interviews, but I am sure that there is a writing sample at the end of the interview because my CM classmates told me that. Both CM and FNP programs will be together for 16 months (4 semesters) for RN portion and two classes in the 5th semester. Then the cohort will be split into two different program for specialty training.

I just received an e-mail for an interview! I'm so nervous and excited!! :nailbiting: Did anyone else get the e-mail?!

Congrats to you driven2012 too! Time to prepare whoohoo!! Looks like we will find out by March 1st.

Congrats!!!! I got the email too I'm so excited!!! Is there only one day of interviews feb. 20? Either way I can't wait

Congrats lalalove! It appears that they set aside a full day (9am-4:00pm) for interviews and it was the only day offered! This is so exciting. Who is interviewing in the morning?

Hey guys! Congrats on the interviews! So for those in CM, it's a one on one interview and they will ask pretty much your typical questions. Be up to date on political reform and healthcare. You do write an essay at the end but you can decide between two or three prompts. For FNP, it's set up like a group interview with them running through scenarios. FNPs, too, have an essay at the end.
