  1. Yay Case Managers! Let me know if you guys have any questions! You'll have buddies when you first start out so you won't be completely lost =) If you're interested, PM me and I can send you my e-mail if easier.
  2. Good luck everybody! I look forward to meeting the new class soon!
  3. Sorry for being ambiguous. Obamacare is good to know... and specific components of it. Not just the "general gist" but maybe pick a section you find interesting. It's what I was asked about, but it might be different for you.
  4. Also, I got a loan through Sallie Mae because I got a better rate. The financial aid will work out, don't worry! A lot of us have had to do it already so don't fret.
  5. Hey guys! Congrats on the interviews! So for those in CM, it's a one on one interview and they will ask pretty much your typical questions. Be up to date on political reform and healthcare. You do write an essay at the end but you can decide between two or three prompts. For FNP, it's set up like a group interview with them running through scenarios. FNPs, too, have an essay at the end.
  6. I remember how nerve wracking it can be! Take it one day at a time and remember this feeling because once you do get in, you'll be amazed how fast a year flies by. The program is AWESOME. If you asked me a year ago about how much knowledge I would gain and what skills I would have attained, I would've laughed! The program is really top notch and I have nothing but good things to say about the instructors. This semester has been great and has pushed me past things that have previously made me nervous (giving shots, IVs, etc). Hey, maybe use this stressful time to develop good relaxation techniques to use during school! =)
  7. driven2012, you are correct. The FNP interviews are conducted by two interviewers and the CM interview typically conducted by the head of CM herself. This might be the reason why it's going a little slower. Also, be aware that the interviewers and those that are looking at your apps are also instructors so they are busy doing other things too. Hang in there! And right with alxiong, CM students are getting hired left and right by major hospitals in the bay area and getting paid big bucks too- so if you're interested, you should submit an app!
  8. From what it sounds like, most if not all people took out some sort of loan. I pulled out a loan solely for the cost of tuition for the first year. My living expenses and such are luckily supplied by my husband. Otherwise, I would need to pull out more. Pulling out a loan is rough, but think about it this way - when you get out, you'll be making a LOT and you'll pay it off in no time! If there's one thing that's great about this school, it's that you are really paying for the education. This means teachers are mostly approachable, there are tons of resources for you to utilize and they REALLY prepare you to pass that NCLEX (90%+ pass rate). The teaching style here really clicks with me and was totally worth the extra money.
  9. I'm in case management and interviewed for both FNP and CM. I am, indeed, in my first year. The academic schedule is pretty rigorous, especially in the first semester. In the first semester, you're pretty much spending time in the classroom A LOT. Assignments upon assignments and tests are pretty common but I still have plenty of time to go out with friends and family (albeit less than before) and I'm currently pulling A's. Some people are studying 24/7 and worrying a lot, but let me give you one piece of advice: nursing school test questions are designed to be NCLEX style. This means that you'll often narrow your answer down to a 50/50 chance and you'll have to learn how to choose the right one. You can study as much as you want, but if you don't know how to answer these questions, you won't do well. This semester, we have three days of class, one day of lab and one day of clinical. It's supposed to be the hardest semester, but I don't have much to compare it with. Next semester, it'll be two clinical, one lab and a day or two of class. The course is designed to be intensive... I don't know many people who work while going to school and I advise against it.Flexibility is very narrow. You get to state your preference in clinical sites but that's about the extent. They choose all the classes for you and everybody is in the same classes.
  10. Hi, I'm currently in the program. Let me know if you have any questions. I'm pretty busy though, so I'll try my best! =)
  11. Hey Kandd99, Congratulations!! USF and SMU! I guess the biggest question is what do you want to do? Case management? CNL? Personally, I have interests outside of both, and since USF seems like a better school for nursing, I'd go with them. However, either way, you'll get a great education. The cohort at SMU seem very nice so far though! Best of luck in your decision.
  12. Nat714, Think about it this way... if you go to the ABSN, you'll still need to find a job and get experience (very tough in this market!) then reapply for an FNP program - which would cost you more money anyway. If you add up the costs of the ABSN and another MSN or DNP, it could very well equal 120k if not more. If clinical nursing isn't something you want, then that's okay too because you can get a post-master's certificate. I don't think that should cost much more money but I could be wrong. However, if you take the hit of 120K, at least you get it all out of the way quickly. I would do the FNP and suffer for a few years by paying debt than have to deal with the headache of reapplying or getting experience.
  13. Soo... I JUST GOT MY ACCEPTANCE EMAIL. I am beyond ecstatic and can't wait to start. I can't wait to meet all of you - Supreme, live.laugh.love, sweetrose!! Can someone pm me the fb group too? Aaahhh I can't think straight right now.
  14. Thanks for your advice. If I may ask, do you happen to know how many people got into your program off the waitlist?
  15. Also, let me know when they call you so I know if I've moved up the list!
