Samuel Merritt University ABSN Spring 2021

Published

Hello!

I didn't see a thread for the SMU absn Spring 2021 cohort so I just wanted to start one!

I'm currently in the process of applying right now and working on my personal statements!

Hope you are all staying safe during this crazy time!

I’m not sure how much experience vs GPA is worth. They kept emphasizing that they look at the whole picture. Ultimately I think they’re looking for people who have the ability to get through the program successfully and who will actually work as nurses (nursing attrition rates are high!)

Hi,

congratulations to all of those except it in the Sacramento location. I got accepted also.

I didn’t see this! Congratulations:)

Oh what do you mean by attrition? And thank you!

Hi everyone!

I'm new to this thread and I just wanted to share my stats to show that you don't always need the best GPA to get in. I got my acceptance letter this morning! My overall GPA was 3.06, last 60 unit GPA was about a 3.3, and my science GPA was around 3.4. I honestly didn't think I would get in with my grades. I have about 120 hours of volunteering in a clinic and hospital setting and have worked in a medical research lab. Not sure if my volunteer experience is what boosted my application but just wanted to give hope to those with lower GPAs.

Thank you for sharing!  Did you take the HESI?

There’s a high drop out rate after the first year of working as a RN. I think she said it’s something like 18% So they want to ensure the applicant knows what they’re getting themselves into In order to conquer the nursing shortage ?

Thank you! I hope they weigh my application as having more experience haha.

I got my acceptance for Sac today at 745 am

@NurseTara

congratulations!! That’s awesome.

I’m sorry, I originally read this as Sac State!

Yes I got accepted only to Sac. I didn’t apply to San Mateo.

Congratulations! What were your stats?

@NurseTara congratulations ?

Also - does anyone know how long the HESI results take to come in? If I don’t get in, I’m thinking about taking it 11/22... or 11/24 hmm
