Samuel Merritt Uni- Spring 2011 BSN Transfer Applicants

Published

Hello everyone. I hope the semester is going well for all of you taking summer classes.

I decided to make this thread for those of us applying to SMU for the upcoming Spring 2011 BSN admission cycle. Who else is applying and wants to join me in the waiting game? :D

I'll be going to a different NS. That means one more spot open for you wishing to get in. =D

Hi all. So I was admitted for Spring 2011 and received my financial aid package and well is anyone else confused by it? It says on the instructions sheet that "When reviewing your award letter, please keep in mind that two semesters are attached and your financial aid will run in two semester cycles." And so i'm looking at my award letter which also states my budget total for the 2010-2011 Year as 29,940. It also states "The following represents a breakdown of your total college budget." Looking at the SMU website however, tuition is listed at 17,843 per/semester. So I don't know if this was a gross oversight or maybe they have different rhetoric for what a "year" and "total" means but just looking at this without the website as a reference it would appear to me that 29,940 would be the total cost for 1 year (2 semesters) at SMU. I'm doubting this is the case though, if anyone could offer some clarification on this that'd be great.

Also on my award sources I have one titled "Entrance Award 2010", does anyone know what this is, is it a one time one semester grant or what?

Congrats ! I was confused by it to. I will be going on monday to talk to Fin. Aid. Send me any questions u want me to ask. Also, the entrance award is a grant and I think it is re-newed every year.

If you could clarify the entrance award as well as the amount that should be put down on the Stafford loan sheet that would be great. My reward amount for a subsidized loan was 5500 but due to the wording in the instructions I don't know if I should put down 5500 under load amount or 11000 since they say this is for two semesters.

Hi jennheffer,

I received an email today saying i was waitlisted at number 12.

Hi Nissan350z,

Which school are you going to be attending for Spring?

Hi, I just found out today that I'm #2 on the waitlist for the spring 2011 BSN program. I live in sac. Is there anyone else on here who will be commuting from Sac to Oakland? How are you figuring it out? Maybe we can rent a room in Oakland or something and share between students. I really don't want to be commuting every day... Please let me know u guys.

Hi Laura,

Have you heard if you got in so far? I just found out that I'm on the waitlist. My GPA is very similar to yours, and my TEAS is 83%. I am, too, completing last of my GE requirements by the end of the fall. Let me know if you got in or not.

Hi Irinachka,

I am sorry it took me so long to get back to you, yes I got in. Have you heard about the waitlist at all? There has been a ton of things to do before getting in and it has been stressful to say the least. You should take the CPR and BLS for healthcare providers class if you can just in case. Let me know. Also is anyone out there commuting from the Tri-Valley area? I am thinking about taking bart for classes M, T, and Wed's...but if anyone else want's to carpool I'd like that better!!

Laura

Hi Irinachka,

Laura

Tell me about it! Irinachka, if you haven't started already, definitely get all your blood work/injections/physicals done ASAP as well as your BLS course like Laura pointed out (AHA only). Otherwise, you will not be allowed on clinical sites. I started getting everything together weeks ago and I'm STILL not completely finished.

And Laura, not sure exactly what your financial situation is, but you could rent a room somewhere slightly outside of Oakland for pretty cheap. Check around Craigslist and see if you can find something. If I was living in Sac, I would just temporarily move closer to school. My stress level would be through the roof with all that commute time cutting into my studying. You could also look into taking the train, they may have student discounts or frequent user/commuter discounts. That way you could at least study on your way to and from class. (Hope you are more of a morning person than I am though, some classes start at 8am! :uhoh3:)

Looking forward to meeting all of you!!

-Sarah
