Samuel Merritt online MSN-FNP summer 2015

Published

Is anyone applying or have been accepted into the Samuel Merrit Online FNP for the summer 2015 cohort ? If so, I would like to get a thread to discuss the program and get some support.

I hope it moves along fairly quick like you said! That would be great. I hope to join the cohort as well. I'll keep you guys posted!

Thank you for starting this thread. I have spent the last year researching FNP programs in the NJ/NYC area and feel so comfortable if I were to be accepted to any of their programs but now my husband is contemplating a job in the San Francisco area. I feel very nervous about knowing so little about the FNP programs in the SF area. I am interested in the online program but also would like to hear about the hybrid program as well. I don't intend to work during the program but I do have two young toddlers to care for during the day while my husband works M-F 9-5. So if the hybrid program is mainly evenings and weekends I would strongly consider that, but I will not be able to do a program that has classes during the week days. Hope to hear more about how your online program is going for the future.

Hello everyone,

I am applying to the fall cohort online. Can you share recommendations about the application process? I will submit mine on June 1st (when I graduate from my BSN program). I would love to hear any advice you all have.

Stud,

what was the time line between when you applied and when you were notified? Also, do you have any words of wisdom for the application? I have a 3.8 GPA and have been wait listed at 2 other schools.

I live north of SF and know the California programs well. Samuel Merritt is a great option. I would contact the school regarding times. There is a totally online program which starts summer but they have another cohort starting in August (I am applying to this one). I believe the deadline for this program is in July. I spoke with a lady name (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME). She was very helpful.

Another program in the area is Sonoma State. It is located in Rhonert Park which is just north of SF on hwy 101. That program is full. Deadline for the fall 2016 program is January 31, 2016. This program has some random on sight requirements (more like a hybrid program). You can find more information at Nursing: Sonoma State University.

Hello, I am doing the Hybrid Program at SMU. My deadline was Jan 1, got the call for an interview on Feb 2, and found out two weeks after. I actually just had my orientation yesterday, and I start school on May 4th. I'm not very knowledgable about the complete online program. The OP is on the online cohort, so maybe she can help. I know that the online cohort doesn't only accept once a year. I think they start a new cohory every semester, but don't take my word for it. I also know that they don't hold interviews for the online cohort, and that they just email or call you of your acceptance. I know this by talking to OP. I know that OP has a gpa of a 4.0 and may have been given acceptance based on that, so I don't know if this goes for all applicants. Good luck!

Sorry for the late reply, have a good personal statement. Your GPA seems adequate. I didn't have to do an in person interview but I'm not sure if that has to do with my qualifications but it seems like they didn't as long as your phone conversations are adequate. (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME) is great and very helpful. Let me know if you have any specific questions. Once you submit your app, it should be 2-3 weeks for a decision. So far , they have been very helpful and offer a lot of guidance. Goodluck to you, FNPhereIcome

Hi FNPhereIcome,

I will be applying to the Winter 2016 cohort starting in January. I am a little nervous about my application, I have a 3.75 from University of Phoenix. Is that considered competitive for the school/program? I am a super-strong writer so that's in my favor as far as the goal statement goes. I also spoke with (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME) and she's a doll! She explained that the online program in 100% online with no campus time required. I live in Silicon Valley which is about 35 miles south of Oakland but it's still a big plus for me as I intend to keep working FT until clinicals start, at which time I'll go PT.

As far as clinical placements go (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME) explained that all the student needs to do is identify a site or sites that would be acceptable and that Merritt is 100% responsible for the placement after that point-they don't even want you as the student to contact the site at all, but just to identify it. I work at Kaiser so I'm super hopeful that I can do most if not all of my clinicals there. Of course she pointed out that they can't guarantee any specific site but I'm still hopeful :)

Any comments or info would be much appreciated! Thanks :)

Hi DeedeeRN8,

Can you or anyone else tell me how the program is going? Do you have to meet up north/on campus for labs?

Thank you.

Hi bayareaFNPStud,

I was wondering how the online program is going and if working is plausible? Also, what professors to take or avoid? Thanks for your response.

How is the online experience going for you guys? I am interested in applying.
