Samuel Merritt Oakland: Fall 2011 - Case Management

Nurses New Nurse

Has anyone received an interview yet? I am anxiously awaiting each day, but still waiting for my GPA to be calculated on NursingCAS (submitted on 2/14 and completed by them on 2/28). :uhoh3: Anyways, I would love to hear about how others are doing during this process!

I am SO getting that clock, whether I get in the program or not! :)

I have this funny feeling that SMU makes their final selections first, then interviews.

Just a hunch. So me and stifffunny (soooo intrigued by that name!) are hopefully

'in' and the interview is just a formality and to ensure they aren't enrolling anyone

who is crazy or otherwise challenged. I can dream, can't I? :)

What time is your interview Carol!?!

It's at 11am. Yours is at 9, right?

Yes it is! She gave me 9am/10am/11am time slots...If I had known that my boss would tell me to just not come into work that day...I woulda signed up for the 11am one! darn it!

You know, CarolC, I think you're right. The reason being is that a good 15 minutes of my interview was more of a practice in how I would handle concern about my science grades. I tried the "Look at the big picture" route, which didn't seem to work, I tried the "I've only gotten one C ever in my whole school history" route -- that didn't work either. When I asked what I could do to alleviate concern, and threw out some specific ideas, the CM faculty noted that they liked the fact that I did so. I think they already knew I had good skills but maybe this was the point where my commitment to the program really came out.

Running some of the comments past my BF, he noted where the faculty tipped their hand. I didn't lock onto it, but in hindsight, it makes sense now.

Sending lots of good vibes for you tomorrow. :)

Alright ladies, kick some butt tomorrow! :) Let us know how it went!

Thanks! I had just been checking out the CM pdf docs on the SMU website, did anyone else see those? They're interesting and helpful. I think they're prior students' final projects or something.

My haircolor is refreshed....clothes picked out & ready to go...so far, have been staying pretty Zen about tomorrow. I keep thinking about that clock! :)

I nervous! I've been thinking of all different types of questions they may ask and trying to answer it in my head...just so that I'm prepared for what they will bring tomorrow. GAHH!! I'm also trying to stay Zen about tomorrow...I'm not TOTALLY freaking out, but probably more nervous than any other interview I've had. My clothes are picked out as well..it took me a while to think of what to wear...tried to rummage through my mom's closet as well...HA! BEST OF LUCK TOMORROW CAROL! Kick butt! I will try my best to do the same! I will probably post something tomorrow as soon as I get home from the interview. eep! crossing fingers!

Awesome. Visualization is a good way to keep zen, that's for sure.

Yes, I did review the documents & look at the syntheses (plural of synthesis?). Fusae tole me that most of thesection of the Website was recently updated. Sure enough it was.

I never got a chance to look at the page "Case Management Practices (http://www.samuelmerritt.edu/nursing/cm_elms_nursing/practices), but I think that it shows a variety of paths within the discipline -- I wish I would have read it in more detail.

I did print out the "About the Degree" page -- I think it's been updated: looked like it had a little more content than before. This helped me to tie in past experience with degree objectives.

Anyway, hope you're getting ready to get some rest. : ) Sleep well!

You'll do great. Don't worry about the questions, just concentrate on your experience and different ways in which it could be applied. Crossing fingers too! :)

Go get 'em, Stifffunny! Best of luck.

(I really would love to know the story with your screen name.

I keep wondering if it has something to do with morticians....:)

Haha...that's an interesting guess...but no...it's nothing THAT intriguing! My name is Tiffany and one of my friends started calling me "Stiff" because when she would introduce me and say "This is Tiff."...people would get confused and say "Stiff?" (say "This is Tiff" fast). Then I just used "funny" for the "fany" part in Tiffany because I'm known to be really funny and silly. And no, I'm no comedian...I don't think I'm good with jokes...but I'm a really goofy/weird/silly person once you get to know me, so my friend's would always naturally laugh, whether it was with me or at me. haha! :D
