Hi all,

Applications are due just around the corner, and I was just wondering if anyone else has started the application process yet.

It would be good to hear back from others who are going through the same process!

Sahar,

I'm sure you're fine. I don't think it will come down to something like that. I, myself, have a microbiology class in progress this semester. You got called in for an interview for a reason, just be yourself and make a good impression! From old forums it seems like the interview can really sway their decision to where some people would get a call within minutes of leaving the interview! The only issue that I would see with a class pending is if you don't pass or if you don't meet the min GPA requirement with the grade you receive and that won't happen right?! :D Good luck with your interview on your upcoming interview! I know they keep the interview process under wraps, so tell us what you can about it when you're done!

Tiffany- I need to take microbiology over the summer if I end up getting accepted (fingers crossed!) and Ive heard its really hard to get into that class for some reason. Are you an SF area local and taking it somewhere nearby? Im getting really nervous and havent heard about an interview yet :( I turned in everything the day before it was due so im hoping its just NursingCAS thats holding things up but who knows!

@gohs - I'm taking Microbiology at Chabot College in Hayward. It is a class that is high in demand and trying to add into it is very difficult if you don't have high priority at the college you're trying to take the class at. I registered for one of the classes before the semester started but had to drop it because of scheduling conflicts, so I had to try to add one of the night classes and I was worried that I wouldn't get in...I almost didn't. I'm not sure about any other options other than taking it at a CC and I think it's in high demand at all colleges. So, best bet is to check out all CCs around your area. If you can, try not to wait til summer because, heaven forbid, you don't get into a class then you're stuck! I know the semester system has already started for a few weeks now, you may want to try at either Foothill or DeAnza CC because they are quarter systems, so you can look up their spring schedule for a possible Microbiology class. Other than that, if you don't have priority, just keep trying and ask the teacher if you can continue attending the class before the deadline to drop and add. A lot of students may drop the class and if they don't sometimes the teacher will see your persistence and have sympathy for you and add you in the class! (I've seen it happen!).

I haven't heard anything about interviews yet either and I sent in my app on the deadline date (I was kinda OCD about the app because I kept checking, checking and rechecking to make sure everything was alright). I think SMU knows the limitations of the NursingCAS system and takes that into account. Don't worry too much! It's sent in! You did your part! Now NursingCAS and SMU have to do their part! I hope I answered many of your questions and feel free to reply if you have more! Good luck!

Yeah, I knew that NursingCAS was slow, so I submitted everything 6+ weeks (in November) before the deadline. I wasn't sure if the app would be considered "on time" if NursingCAS hadn't processed everything by the deadline.

My stats are pretty average according to their past years stats. Last 60 units GPA: 3.52; Science GPA 3.76; TEAS: Total 87.6%; Reading 97.5%; Math 88.9%. I'm guessing the rest comes down to the interview.

thanks so much for that info Tiffany! I didnt realize those two have quarter systems so that definitely helps. Hopefully I will know if I get in or not before the spring quarter starts and it will help me plan out the remaining courses a little better just to be safe. I am still working full time or I would definitely try to add this semester but Im already taking one and I dont think I can handle another one right now!

You really helped so thanks very much for that and it makes me feel better than others havent heard about an interview yet either. I guess we keep on waiting! Good luck to you and everyone else!!

btw Laura...I think you can check on NursingCAS to see if your application has been processed/sent. If you go to the main page of your NursingCAS, under "Quick Status" click "Designations" I think that page should say if it has been processed or sent!? Mine just said the application is completed. I'm not sure though? For those of you who have already been contacted for an interview, could you verify this and see what it says on your NursingCAS?! This is where I have been checking..and also under the GPA Calculations as well.

It just gives you the date completed.

They just contacted me through email for an interview. Beyond having your App completed, checking of NursingCAS doesn't seem necessary.

Once NursingCAS has all the proper materials the "status" of your application will say "completed" with the date it was completed next to it (and after all GPA calcs are done, etc). That's what mine says as well. I read in the FAQs that once your app is completed, SMU can view your entire app through their own NursingCAS portal in real time, if I understand correctly...

I just got the confirmation email for the interview next Tuesday @11:30am. Anyone else have that date and time slot? sooo..nervous!

I just got the confirmation from jamillah too!!!!!! Soooo nervous.

Hi Tiffany,

I had been checking daily too on the status. With NursingCAS updating my last transcript received as of 2/1, under Designations, I now read: Date Submitted: 01/04/2011 Complete Date: 02/01/2011

Before the update in the system yesterday, it did not say anything

Thanks for the info guys. This nursingCAS system is such a headache! I guess checking NursingCAS is the only thing I can do at this point which is why I keep checking! LOL!

Hi guys!

Wow, I can't believe people have heard from SMU already! Congratulations! And I thought it would be too early considering the NursingCAS system. I haven't heard anything back yet, and I wonder if that has to do with my last transcript getting in around the end of January. I'm so anxious and nervous now. I really hope to hear from SMU soon. Good luck on interviews!

Hi RosePetalss,

I'll keep fingers crossed for both of us! Here's a couple of things that may help us out.

When I emailed back and forth with EB (I hadn't heard back from KR) regarding my lagging transcript, it sounded like they were aware of the Nursing CAS system taking a long time, and she said that it was no problem for me to send my lagging transcript directly to SMU, as long as it was sealed.

What I also gathered from the note is that SMU is keeping an eye on applications in the system that haven't been fully "blessed" by NursingCAS yet. I had read on earlier posts that SMU does their own GPA calculation, and NursingCAS does theirs.

I'm figuring from all of this that as long as our applications are in, and SMU has access to them, then we're still considered part of the applicant pool. Net, I think we're OK.

If anyone has any other 2 cents to add, then by all means, please do! :)

Katie
