Hey all:
I've been reading the forums for a while and I hadn't seen any discussion specific to the SMU ELMSN-FNP program in Oakland. I'm getting ready to submit my application...anybody else out there? I'd love to chat with other folks!
Congrats to everyone who got an interview, and good luck awaiting the letters.
From what I have seen on this site and experienced with the school is that they run on their own timeline, and definitive dates are not that definite. I didn't get a call for an interview until I had already given up hope (since a few interview rounds had already passed) and then I got early acceptance! For others who got early acceptance they said a packet would arrive in 1-2 weeks, and it took more like 3 :) For the ABSN I got my acceptance letter 2 weeks before they said they would send anything out. I think patience and flexibility are key with this school, and you just have to wait! In my interview they also said they have been bringing about 10 people off the wait list the past few years. So that should be encouraging for anyone who gets waitlisted.
For those of you who did get in early, did you also apply for the ABSN and get in? I was wondering if the packet info was mostly the same. I also started a facebook group for anyone who got in and has decided to attend, so we can begin to get to know one another, just search Samuel Merritt ELMSN (we will be the class of 2013, ahh!)
They definitely run on their own timeline. My interview was the first week of February, I got an early acceptance that day, and received my packet this weekend...so there ya go.
I only applied to the ELMSN program. I think they are similar. I have a friend who applied to the ABSN program and got similar info. The health clearance is intense.....I hope my doctor is willing to help me with all of that!
Congratulations to all those already accepted and good luck to all those playing the waiting game! Definitely dont give up hope..kind of like Andrea I thouht I had no chance at an interview bc they had 3 or 4 rounds already and I still didn't hear anything but I finally got called and got an early acceptance! I'm a little nevous right now though..currently my acceptance is pending because their missing a letter of ref which is frustrating because I turned in three...does anyone know the best way to get a hold of karena? I've called emailed and left her messages but still haven't heard back =(
Yeah, the health clearance is pretty long, but not nearly as long as the one I had to do for Peace Corps...oh that was an invasive round of making sure you're ok to live in the middle of nowhere!! I am one of those millions of Americans without insurance, so I'll probably go to SMU to get it done, at least it will be easy to get a copy of everything if it gets lost, it will be right there on campus! I have a WHO card for immunizations, so I think that will do. We shall see. Plus a 2-step PPD and lifesaver CPR.
Anyone doing anything exciting before classes start? I wanted to bike to Los Angeles starting by crossing the Golden Gate Bridge (would be willing to go to Mexican border) if anyone has a week to spare and is into the idea...just throwing it out there as I would rather not go it alone!
that sounds incredibly ambitious. Good luck! I am not that avid of a bike rider, so I'm going to have to pass. I did get CPR certified last night. So, check that one off the list. My social life has been packed since the interviews since I know there won't be much of one once the program starts. Does anyone know the hard start date? I thought she said their was an orientation in August or September. Will? do you remember?

I think Actual classes start on august 30th with an orientation happening on the 20th.

Thanks for all the info. I'm glad they gave you definitive dates when letters will be sent out. I'll be eagerly waiting
