2010 Samuel Merritt Oakland ELMSN-FNP applicants?

Published

Hey all:

I've been reading the forums for a while and I hadn't seen any discussion specific to the SMU ELMSN-FNP program in Oakland. I'm getting ready to submit my application...anybody else out there? I'd love to chat with other folks!

Anyone doing anything exciting before classes start? I wanted to bike to Los Angeles starting by crossing the Golden Gate Bridge (would be willing to go to Mexican border) if anyone has a week to spare and is into the idea...just throwing it out there as I would rather not go it alone!

Andrea I would love to do that if I didn't have work...and if I had a road bike. But if you've got a mountain bike as well, let's go hit up some trails in the future!

Heck yeah I also have a mountain bike! I am kind of a wuss when it comes to going downhill on a trail, but I'm willing to give it another go. I actually found a friend who is coming out from VA to bike the week of Easter...April 4th-10th. So, if anyone else is interested that's when we will go. She might not want to do the whole thing, so we might just bike to Napa or something instead.

Anyone here into Climbing? I have been wanting to go more often, but need a partner. I go to Ironworks usually, but am happy to go to GWPC as well.

Yes, orientation is the 20th, and classes begin the 30th of August: http://www.samuelmerritt.edu/academic_calendar

There were actually more breaks than I was expecting. I already told my mom that I might not be coming home for x-mas anytime soon :)

How many of you need to move to attend the program? We have an extra room in my apartment in Berkeley, in case anyone is interested in checking it out let me know.

I havnt heard back yet acoustid foodie..have you? I guess we'll heard back soon..next few weeks?

I would ride but since I fell down and hit my head a few months ago I havnt been too crazy about jumping back on a bike..but I do climb! I've been meaning to try out ironworks but for now I climb at citybeach

Anybody else interviewing tomorrow afternoon? I'll see some of you there!

Hey everyone. Any news yet? I just heard that I was waitlisted for Seattle U, so I'm sending my deposit for Samuel Merritt. Will, we may be classmates afterall. :) It looks like the campus is a 15 minutes walk from the MacArthur bart station, so that makes it easier to look for housing. Any thoughts on this?

For those of you who do not live in Oakland, the campus might seem like a pain to get to unless you live nearby, and this is totally untrue. It is a bit far to walk from MacArthur BART, but that could just be my opinion. They mentioned in an info session that there is a shuttle that goes to and from BART every 15 minutes during the day. So you could live anywhere near a BART station and probably be fine. It is an easy bike ride from Berkeley and most of Oakland (if you can avoid some of those hills!)

Since it is between Telegraph and Broadway, it is also easy to get to by bus, so this is a good option if you live in Alameda or Berkeley, or further away in Oakland. There is some parking near the campus, and I am sure that if you are willing to pay for a permit, you could get one in the lots surrounding the campus.

Thanks for the info Andrea. I'm going to look into that!

Well, I just interviewed today and then received word of early acceptance. I am really excited! I look forward to meeting all of my new classmates in the fall!

John
