Samuel Merritt ELMSN Sacramento 2011

U.S.A. California

Published

Hey everyone- I thought it was time to start a new thread for the up and coming applicant pool for the ELMSN Sacramento cohort 2011. Five months until applications are due and it doesn't hurt to start communicating with one another already. I met with the admissions counselor last week and she gave me many pointers on how to strengthen my application. Can't wait to hear from some others out there who will be in it with me for the remainder of the year hoping to get into SMU.

Hey atmywindow-

Did they call you about the interview or email you? I'm just wondering if it's a group or individual interview? I got an email saying the 26th but a time frame of only 15 minutes.

I can't really tell you too much about the interview, except for that's it's quite interesting. They change it up each year so that no one knows what to expect. I can tell you this. We had three interviewers, which were current professors at SMU and at the end we got to meet and talk with current SMU students.

All I can say is be yourself and try and relax. Good luck!

I haven't heard anything yet, i'm getting nervous about it.

ilnurse- do not freak out. I'm sure they will either call you or email you in the next couple of days. SMU does things in a way that's all their own. All I know is that there are two days of interviews scheduled so far. August 26th and August 28th. Last year they scheduled interviews and then after the interviews added more interview days. I guess they were not 100% satisfied with what they saw, but who knows???? I would think that if you are going to be interviewed for one of these days that they will at least notify you by Thursday of this week. Good luck! It's both nerve wracking and exciting to get the chance to interview with SMU!

Hi,

Liza actually called me to notified me about the interview.

She told me the date, time and location for the interview over the phone. However, when I asked her about interview format, she told me that the interview information will be provided at the interview.

She mentioned that the interview will be for 2hours. Based on the last year postings from allnurses.com, this probably is a group interview.

But I want to know how the interview is formatted. I have been to many interviews and also conducted many interviews. So, I am very comfortable with any type of interview.

However, I though that it was odd that the interview format can not be provided.

Normally, in any interview, the interview details are provided prior to the interview so people can better prepare for it before they arrive.

This way, both interviewer and interviewee are on the same page from the beginning and the interview itself becomes more productive.

Does everyone get a question that they have to answer?

Do they randomly select one of the interviewee to answer a select question?

Does everyone get a same question?

If they are interviewing 15-20 people in 2hours, each person is only spending just few minutes answering questions.

I prefer the individual interview format myself both as an interviewee and as an interviewer.

But I will go with the flow when I get there.

I am looking forward to it!!

So, good luck to those of us who are going to be interviewed.

Yes you got a group interview. I understand your frustration with not knowing, but I think that is what SMU wants. They want to see how you can handle situations of unknowns. The group interview is hard because you have to make yourself stand out from the rest and you will walk away from it feeling like they have no idea who you are. It sounds to me like you are familiar with the interview process so that will work in your favor. There is no reason to be scared or unsure of yourself. They were all really nice last year.

Ok,

For those who applied for ELMSN-CM program.

So, my 8/26 interview was for ELMSN-FNP program. (This invitation was through a phone call)

Today, I just received an EMAIL from Samuel Merritt for ELMSN- CM program. (Yes, I also applied to this program as well).

They gave me two dates 8/31 and 9/7. They had 7 sessions for each day (1hr for each session).

The email indicated that there will be 3 faculty members who will be interviewing the applicants.

I can select the date and the time slot from the choices that they provided.

Anyone waiting for ELMSN-CM program interview?

I received an email today for an interview on Aug 28th 10-12 pm. Excited and nervous!!

Hi! I will be at the same interview. I'm Mallory. Glad to be able to communicate with you before hand. Are you local to Sac?

Mallory,

Is it on 8/28? I wasn't sure if you were talking to me.

If so, I am sorta local to sac, I actually live in Elk Grove. How about you? Are you as nervous as you I am. The group interview kinda scares me.

Hi Aarti,

Yes on 8/28 at 10. I'm pretty nervous but hey, who wouldn't be. I'm pretty sure we're all in the same boat on that one. I live in Santa Cruz, about two hours away. A little drive before hand i figure will give me enough time to drink about a gallon of coffee before the questions begin :) I'm actually kind of okay with the whole thing. It is so awesome that we have the opportunity to research and communicate about everything over the internet. It seems to be helping with my nerves...A LOT! How old are you? What is your Bachelors Degree in? I'm 26 and mine is in psychology. Did you also apply to the ABSN?

I know I love this site! I just turned 30..(still not used to saying 30) My BS is in Criminal Justice and i also applied to the absn program as well. i wonder how many ppl are going to be in our group.. have u applied anywhere else?

Nope, just Merritt. I'm stuck on this school. I really appreciate what it is about. The more I read the more I seem to find it the perfect fit for me. I really like that the smaller more intimate learning environments. Man I tried calling UCSF and speaking to someone in their admissions office, they were just down right rude! Big egos I figured :p Have you applied anywhere else?
