Hii!!!
I've been looking all over for a thread about SM ELMSN Fall 2012 but have not found any!! So I guess I'll be the first to post something about it. Since application deadline is today, any hopefuls like to share their application experiences, stats, goals, anything related to nursing school? Now that apps are completed, the waiting begins...sooooo exciteddd!!! I applied to the FNP track, crossing my fingers
Getting a masters in cm doesnt bar you from getting ur masters in fnp. I think you should accept it forsure!!! And smu is a great school, ive yet to meet a grad from the cm program who hasnt found an awesome job post grad! Xzalense dot worry, even if she accepts youll still get in, i just know it.
So let's break it down... and everything I say is me trying to be neutral in this situation. If you go the ABSN route, you'll be an RN in a year, right? Then you need experience (whether or not you go the CM or ABSN route) of about a year to get into an NP school. so if you do ABSN, you cut your time to your ultimate goal by a year and a semester. You also save a year and a semester's worth of tuition which is approximately $45k, right? If not more? However, like you mentioned, it is a graduate program but you don't want to waste your time and money if you can do it faster and possibly cheaper (UCSF has fantastic NP programs). If I had taken pathophysiology and pharmacology, I would probably go the ABSN route. However, since I didnt, my choices are limited. Choose what is right for you in the long run... I am also unsure of your personal background. I'm trying to get through nursing school so I can start a family, so time/money is a factor for me. Anyway, I know whichever way you choose, you'll do great. They are both fantastic programs :)
Hi xzalense,
haha yeah, I broke it down to that point too. Again, I have yet to hear back from the ABSN program. I'm so tired of waiting for them. It has been over 6 months since I applied and the wait is driving me crazy! At this point, I just want to forget about the ABSN because it seems like they can't make a decision. Gahh. Like you said, both are fantastic programs. I have heard nothing but good things about the CM program. Definitely one of the most difficult decisions I have to make.
You're number 3 on the waiting list, correct? I'm sure you'll get in. :)
So, how is everyone paying for this?? I will have to take out loans, but I haven't researched on how to do that yet. I also applied for FAFSA. Anyone has any good tips to give out for student loans? Or even how this whole process works? I was fortunate enough to have my undergraduate program paid for. So, I have very little to no experience on financing my way through school.
Since its a graduate program, well be able to qualify for federal loans. Since u already have a bachelors, if you chose the Accelerated BSN program, youll prob need to take out private loans.

Superme154,
I haven't decided on that yet. I really like the program, but I have always wanted to be an NP. I might not have that chance to be an NP if I go to the CM program. But, at the same time I'm worried about the whole Doctor of Nursing Practice by 2015. So, if I take the ABSN program (assuming I get in) I'll have to go through even more years of schooling. I'm so lost!
What do you think?
