U.S.A. California

Hii!!!

I've been looking all over for a thread about SM ELMSN Fall 2012 but have not found any!! So I guess I'll be the first to post something about it. Since application deadline is today, any hopefuls like to share their application experiences, stats, goals, anything related to nursing school? Now that apps are completed, the waiting begins...sooooo exciteddd!!! :nurse: I applied to the FNP track, crossing my fingers :uhoh3:

Hello!!

I recently did my application too!! I also applied to the FNP track!!Im excited a nervous at the same time because I know that this is a competitive program. I haven't taken my TEAS yet..have you??

Hello!

I'm so glad you started this thread, lliu1109! I also applied to Samuel Merritt's ELMSN FNP Program for Fall of 2012! I'm so incredibly nervous about the application process but extremely excited to be applying!

I guess I'll be brave and list some of my stats:

GPA (last 60 hours): 3.37

Science GPA: 3.5

TEAS V Scores:

Reading 85.7%* :(

Math 93.3%

Science 81.3%

English 96.1%

Composite 88% (98 percentile-national, 95-program)

*I'm debating on whether or not I should re-take the TEAS due to my low reading score. While it exceeds the national average by 15%, I'm worried that it's not a competetive score.

I come from a family of nurses (my mom and sister are RN-BSNs), and after beginning to study medicine at a foreign school, I am confident that nursing is a better fit for me than medicine. By completing CNA training this notion was confirmed.

Furthermore, my experiences abroad afforded me the opportunity to get a ton of hands on experience both in the inpatient and outpatient setting. There is no place I'd rather be than in an outpatient clinic as a primary care provider, working with people of all ages.

I am a trained Spanish-English Medical Interpreter and was a volunteer interpreter at a community clinic run by FNPs. Having studied abroad has also expanded my knowledge of the Hispanic culture, and I hope to use this knowledge to be able to treat more diverse patient populations.

Additionally, before making my application, I shadowed APNs to really get an idea of what they do and to be sure that being an APN is for me. I cannot wait to learn nursing theory as it will enhance my knowledge of medicine and make me a better healthcare provider!

I am so very excited to have this chance to apply to nursing school! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for all of us, and hopefully, we'll all be starting together next fall!!!

Ok. . .so now I feel a little odd that I'm the only person who posted my stats and talked about my experiences. I'm just really excited to start my nursing career!

Anyone else care to share their stats or nursing-related experiences?

Hello Everyone,

I applied to Samuel Merritt's ELMSN-FNP Fall 2012 too. Hopefully, we will hear back from them in a couple of weeks. Here's some of my stats:

GPA: (last 60 semester units) 3.5

Science GPA: 4.0

TEAS V: 88% I wonder how they are going to weigh the TEAS this year, since it is a new test.

I am glad there is a support system out there to share the anxiety of this waiting period. Good luck everyone, I hope we all get in!

@yllekah: Congrats on the perfect science GPA!

I am also wondering how the TEAS is weighted. I'm a bit nervous about my reading score. :uhoh21: Heck! I'm on pins and needles already, and I was told the faculty won't be reviewing applications until January!

Oh the suspense!

Thanks Cortisol. My reading score was my lowest percentage too. I think the composite score is the most important factor of the TEAS. Your score is in the high 80s which is awesome. Plus you have a lot of nursing experience and the fact that you are fluent in Spanish makes you super competitive.

So we will not hear from Samuel Merritt until mid-January? Since they switched the application deadline for this program from January to November, I assumed that we would know our status by January. 2 more months of waiting, I'm excited/nervous!

I was told that applications will be reviewed by the admissions counselor in December and go on to the faculty for review in January. Interviews would be scheduled in February/March.

I called the office yesterday and was told that my application hasn't even been entered into the system and to call back next week. I know they recieved my application on Friday, November 3 because I tracked it online.

I definitely know what you mean when you say your are excited/nervous! I feel the same every time I think about it!

Hi All ! :)

it's nice to hear from other students applying to the same program and hopefully we can all be classmates next fall. I feel the same way about my TEAs scores as well. And this waiting game doesn't take the pressure off either. Have any of you applied to other schools, and if so what programs?

I applied to an accelerated BSN program in IL and Samuel Merritt. I'm really hoping to get accepted to the ELMSN FNP Program.

How about you?

SMU is my first choice but applying to a couple of other schools in CA

I was told last week that SMU wants you to meet or exceed the national average for the TEAS.

Cortisol, I am unable to send PM's. Can you help me with this?
