Just wanted to start an information-sharing thread for those applying for the ABSN Summer 19 cohort at Samuel Merritt University (in Oakland, CA and San Mateo, CA). Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

@nurse_steph94 thank you. I applied for the same Cohort so I have been checking my email like crazy thinking the day is near lol. I guess I can relax now!...

hmmmm as for the clinicals does that sound like the location of your cohort location (San Mateo vs Oakland) doesn’t matter where you’re placed?

@Parientlywaiting I know, same!!

So if you applied to Oakland, clinicals will be more in the East Bay area. If you applied to San Mateo, they could be in SF or in the South Bay area. Sucks that it could be either, I'm hoping for south bay since I live in San Jose currently.

Hi Everyone! This will be my second time apply for the ABSN program. I got waitlisted last time because I still had a few classes in progress, but I really, really hope I get in this time. *fingers crossed* Good luck to everyone trying to get in as well! ?

Do you a receive a preliminary email if you have no classes in progress? I was waitlisted last time but had some classes I needed to finish so I got the email last time. I havent heard anything at all this time and I applied for the April start... Really hoping to hear at least something soon!

I just received my preliminary review email this morning. I do not have any classes pending.

Hey guys! I just received an email that they completed the preliminary review of my application. When I submitted my application, I was taking an English class for prerequisite and I'm currently taking pharm/patho.

I applied for summer cohort and submitted my application 3 days before the deadline

I have not heard anything besides the email saying they received my application.

Science GPA 3.7,

Last 60 credits GPA not sure but above 3.7

HESI 90%.

I applied one day before the deadline. I also have 10 years experience as a medical assistant. No volunteer experience in the health field. All pre req’s were completed at the time of submitting. Anyone else still waiting for prelim email? I only applied to Oakland campus.

I received my preliminary review email on 1/18.

Done with prerequisites at time of application.

Science: 3.0

Last 60: 3.5

HESI: 90%

Worked full time (exec assistant) and took full load of classes for a year and a half, which apparently they like. 200+ hours hospital volunteer experience, community service, and letters of rec from bosses and a volunteer manager.

I applied for SMU Sacramento ABSN Spring 19 and was in the 30s on the waitlist.

This time (Oakland Summer 19) I’ve added six months or so as an aide in an inpatient setting, letters from professors instead of bosses, and brushed up my essays a bit. Hoping for the best - for all of us!

I’m submitting to the ELMSN Case Manager track too.

This has been quite a process! Equal parts fun, scary, and stressful! ?
