Samuel Merritt ABSN Summer 2019

Published

Just wanted to start an information-sharing thread for those applying for the ABSN Summer 19 cohort at Samuel Merritt University (in Oakland, CA and San Mateo, CA). Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

I've applied twice. This is my 3rd time applying. I got waitlisted first time and rejected the second time. Hoping 3rd times the charm. I got a 92% in my HESI. All my GPA's are over a 3.5. I work as a medical assistant at a community clinic. Took pharm and patho through Samuel Merritt. I'm not sure what they're looking for honestly. My app was more competitive the second time and I got rejected. But alas, just hoping still

These stats are definitely better than mine! My last 60 units gpa is 3.56, science gpa is 3.4 and I got 87.6% on my Hesi! This is my second time applying. I've been trying to retake a few courses to bring up my gpa but I'm starting to feel hopeless. Hopefully we'll have a better chance this time since theres three cohorts available.

I hope we all get in together! I am definitely nervous, especially seeing everyone's great stats.

I believe the personal statement (the 3 questions we answered) play a big part into whether we are accepted or not...so hopefully my statement wins them over! I had several people looking at it for me and I kept editing it.

I feel like we have been waiting for so long already

Glad to see some other folks joining the discussion! Wishing the best for everyone during this application cycle!

I wonder why we didn’t get our preliminary review yet? Last cycle, applications were due July 1 and they were sent out by August. I thought this cycle would be faster according to last year’s forum.

Do you think they aren't sending out preliminary review emails? My hope is that they are going straight to sending out final acceptance/waitlist/deny letters since it's been so long since we applied.

Just got my preliminary review email! Check your inbox and spam!

Wanted to point out thought that I don't have any in progress classes, and last time when I applied I got the preliminary review email later than everyone else (by a couple weeks).

And for reference, last time I got the "preliminary review" email 2 months before the decisions were sent out, so we could be in for quite the wait. :(

I think so too! Hopefully we hear by beginning of March! Sucks for those who need to move, that doesn’t give them much time to find a place and all that if they do get accepted ?

I emailed derric and he said decisions should be sent out within the next month or so ?

@nurse_steph94 which start date Did you apply for? Did it sound like all start dates will be notified at the same time

I applied for San Mateo April start. I'm not sure, maybe April a little before others. At least that's what it seemed like in previous threads.

Also, for anyone interested, I also asked about where clinicals will be and he said "Clinicals are arranged by our clinic placement coordinators and are no longer dictated by the term in which students begin the program."
