Samuel Merritt ABSN Summer 2012

Hi everyone! :nurse:

So, the applications are due today (September 1st) for summer admission to ABSN program at Samuel Merritt. How does everyone feel about their application??  What campus did you apply to?

I thought tuition was $58,172, ****!!!!

Congrats pnlu007, the tuition is a little cheaper at Linfield. But, that $22,000 scholarship makes it a HUGE difference. I'm jealous.

tigo, I want. LovePaws wants too. It's just that I work full time and come home pretty late but that's only on weekdays.

Ah yeah, I could do a Sunday thing too! I have a buddy who got in the program with me so I'm not really going in blind but I am down to get any advantage I can by forming study groups and the like early! I live in South Bay so holler if you're near!

Hi San Mateo cohort!

I decided to join now that I have been accepted into the program. Talk about a long wait huh? Well worth it now that I received the call last week but I was indeed stressing out. I would be interested in meeting you guys if you decide to do so. I live in San Ramon but will drive wherever. It will be nice to meet some classmates before our first day. After all, we are going to need one another's support throughout this program. I am pretty busy myself but I can definitely find time to meet as long as I have a heads up. I have two little ones at home and expecting baby #3 before the program starts. I know, yikes!! Let me know when you all would like to meet up...Congrats everyone and I look forward to meeting you :)

Hey GUys, the $21,000 was rounded up a little bit. It is really $20K-something. AS I mentioned, I didn't have my paper in front of me. And when you are talking about this much money to begin with, a few hundred dollars one way or another doesn't make a huge difference. You will be enlighted when you receive your packet.

Happy Friday

Also, does anyone still need to take CPR/BLS and Bloodborne pathogens? Is there a company that does all in 1? It almost seems like you can do it online but I don't see how this can be true. Also, I was told that it has to be through the American Red Cross or American Red Cross certified.
For the CPRBLS but does anyone know about the blood pathogen part you mentioned?

I meant got the CPR but has anyone else heard or know what the reference to blood pathogens is about?

I went through the ABSN in Sac so could be different but we were given the information about the bloodborne pathogens certificate at orientation. You had to do it on a specific website and pay a small fee (I think less than $20 maybe even less than $10)

I haven't heard anything about blood-borne pathogens? I did my CPR/BLS about a week ago - the Heart Start (I think it was) with this awesome guy...Ybarra? something? He was awesome! Wasn't strict, we all got out early...awesome.

Thanks for pointing that out Katie, about the loan. I'll definitely ditch the unsubsidized. I think I'm going to take the Sallie Mae one... You have to pay the interest while you're in school, but I think it's less than $50 a month, and I was thinking of finding a small job somewhere anyway. With an ABSN program that's likely madness but, oh well.

I have no idea about the bloodborne pathogens at all!!! Is that a requirement before the start of the program?

if i recall correctly bloodbourne pathogens can be found on AHA or Red Cross website. It's 25$ and just a web course. Think it has to do with gloves and body substance isolation but i forget.

Blaah more moneyyys for blood-borne pathogens...

Man oh man this loan stuff is annoying! I applied for the Sallie Mae one with my husband as co-signer and they just flat out said no. We're now using his parents as co-signers because my parents flipped out about it (ugh). The Sallie Mae one was really enticing (2% interest while you're in school means like...ten bucks a month!) but the payment plan is really, really aggressive. I was all about $400/month repayment for 36 months until I realized...multiply that by three, dummy, because you're taking out three loans! Man alive that's $1200/month. Hopefully I'll be making a lot more than that, but right now that's half my monthly income!! ...Ha ha I just did the math. Even earning 60K a year, means 5K a month. Okay. 1200 is doable. But I'm applying to the WF loan as well just in case. And did anyone notice that the WF loan for health students has a HIGHER interest rate than the general? What's that all about?
