Samuel Merritt ABSN Summer 2012

Published

Hi everyone! :nurse:

So, the applications are due today (September 1st) for summer admission to ABSN program at Samuel Merritt. How does everyone feel about their application??  What campus did you apply to?

I just called and asked if the Summer San Mateo cohort is still accepting applications. I also asked for a general update on admissions decisions for the Summer SM cohort... They lady said she did not know if they were still accepting apps. She did give me you know who's direct phone extension and also her direct phone number. The lady also said that you know who is not in the office today. She said that she is in charge of admission decisions.

I think there will be about the same time between Oakland hearing and then SM hearing as there was between SF hearing and Oakland hearing. I think they are just doing a detailed job and wrapping up one before moving to the next. I bet SM hears really soon...by sometime next week I am thinking.

Question on paying for school: Is the max stafford loan $20,500 and then we come up with the rest in some other loan or payment before school starts? Does anyone have any idea what award packages look like from Samuel Merritt? I remember seeing that a high percentage who were accepted were able to come up with sufficient funding and I am guessing they didn't save up 60K before. Any insight out there?

I'm glad that I'm so busy at work that I forget about everything, even about us, San Mateo applicants' waiting for the results ;-) It helps a little.

I'm worrying about this too. After one hurdle the next one comes. From what I understand I think it's $12,500 per year. But, I hope I'm wrong.

i think it depends on your finances...i'm not sure about the 20.5K but I think 12.5K is too low for a max...not to say everyone will be allowed to borrow more than that.

A friend of mine said the financial aid office goes above and beyond in assisting students with finding funds via scholarships and grants. I guess we'll know for sure come orientation.

i also dont think there are any award packages from SMU...combing other threads from prior year, i believe it is private lending...wells fargo specifically is what i recall people mentioned.

I've heard many are called off the waitlist due the fact that students who have been accepted having trouble coming up with financing, but if SMU goes above and beyond, I am curious why so many people have been called off the waitlist in the past??? Any thoughts peeps?

although just a guess, i anticipate two thing...first-SMU probably can't get people financed all the way to $58K and potentially moolah for living expenses as well...second-people may have other choices that have less a financial burden...those two coupled may account for a large part of the declines.

I talked to a financial counselor at SMU. The total received from Stafford Loans is $6,250 a semester = $25,000 a year. That will cover nearly half of the tuition alone, not to mention other expenses like books, school suplies and cost of living. Moreover, when you file at FAFSA apply for 2011-2012, not 2012-2013. Tommorow, March 1st, is the last day to apply for a Stafford Loan. It only takes 15-20 minutes if you have your 2010 1040 Tax Return Form in hand. Get on it!

If I applied for 2012-2013 on FAFSA, do I have to do another one for 2011-2012?
