Samuel Merritt ABSN Summer 2012

Published

Hi everyone! :nurse:

So, the applications are due today (September 1st) for summer admission to ABSN program at Samuel Merritt. How does everyone feel about their application??  What campus did you apply to?

Naw...I haven't heard anything yet. San Mateo last year found out on like February 15th ish. This getting borderline ridiculous already. Granted, I know they're probably ridiculously busy, but....it's been exactly 6 months since the initial deadline. I'm losing sleep over this! Ha. I'm hoping to hear something late today or early tomorrow.

Hey guys, First time posting...anyways, some information that is hopefully helpful.I spoke directly with E and rolling your application to the next application cycle is reserved for students who are wait listed. If you get a rejection, you still need to send in a new application for the next round. The ABSN is a 2nd Bachelors degree so aside from your usual subsidized plus unsubsidized stafford loans which equals about 20k, the rest which is at least 40k will most likely be private loans from banks with variable apr. Grants and scholarships are generally for 1st time freshmans getting 1st time bachelors.Above and beyond means they'll get you financed but that doesn't equate to finding you free money. I'm not sure why they don't tell applicants the reality cause its a waste of everyone's time if an applicant applies but doesn't attend cause they can't pay/don't want to take loans. I've basically accepted when I applied to SM that I was going into debt.

haha thats funny Jason...cuz i know starting on february 9th, everyone was waiting for something today or tomorrow.

im not sure if its really SMU responsibility to proactively tell an applicant if they can or can not afford this program...big boy school.

Yeah...EVERYDAY "I'm hoping for something today or tomorrow." Ha. :banghead:

@pnlu007 No, my point was not whether they should tell applicants if they can or cannot afford tuition. I think it would be more helpful to clarify that their specified "above and beyond" does not necessarily mean grants and scholarships but plain and simple -loans. I agree with you that applicants should do their own research as well.

I'm thinking next week so I don't drive myself insane.

Can one of you guys co-sign for a a loan with me?

LOL!

ha... ha... ehhh.

I just saw the academic calendar for SF and SM cohort.. is it true that they both start classes on April 23?

I thought San Mateo starts in June? Isn't that the reason why it's the last cohort to be notified?

Hi Oakland waitlisters, not to add anymore anxiety, but just wanted to let you guys know that... I just got the call! I'm off waitlist and officially in for the Oakland ASBN! E called and just sent me the email. I was waitlisted at #4 (didn't say before cuz I didn't want to jinx myself). So Katiebelle I think you're looking pretty good since you're at #10. I was surprised to get notified today since the technical last day to submit the waitlist letter is today, so that means ppl must have withdrawn. I bet a lot of you have a good chance to get in since it's still so early and they're on to the waitlist ppl already to get in! Good luck everyone!!
