Samuel Merritt ABSN Summer I 2023 Oakland, CA

I thought I'd start this thread since I have not seen one yet. I applied to Samuel Merritt for the Summer I cohort in Oakland 2023. Has anyone else applied too? I know the deadline was October 1st! I am so anxious. the waiting game is so painful LOL 

I received an email yesterday from Samuel Merritt stating that they have finished their preliminary review of my application. I am assuming it is part of the process. Based on past forums, It is common to find out sometime around the 2nd week of December. It is a little nerve-wracking since the second Summer deadline is December 1st. I am thinking I will apply to that deadline just in case!

1st choice: Oakland 2nd choice: San Mateo

Hi! I also applied for the Summer I cycle and put Oakland down as my first choice. The deadline was pushed out to December 1st so we likely won’t hear back until March ??.

I saw the date on the website and thought it was a mistake… :( Any idea why they pushed out the deadline?

I applied for Summer I too! My first choice is San Mateo, though. I submitted in September and never got the preliminary review email. But I did get confirmation that my application is verified and ready for faculty review.

Hi everyone, I’m interested in applying to Samuel Merritt but I am having a little trouble on the essay questions. I may just be overthinking my responses! I want to apply to as many programs as I can! Most of the do not require essay questions. Any advice is appreciated! Good luck to everyone!

As a current student in this program it is with absolute certainty and sadness that I do NOT recommend you attend this school. We have made it to the end of our program and they have decided to remove 1 on 1 preceptorships from their programs. This means that you will have limited in person clinical experiences and no in person/hands on specialty experience at the end of your course. They have decided to go the virtual route which means more sitting behind the computer and less hands on patient care. 

Currently the cohorts that started in 2022 are looking into any sort of action we can take against SMU as they are not even trying to rectify this and have basically given up on trying to place us. I will say that most of the instructors I have worked with have made the best with what they have given them, but the administration and people in charge are going to run this nursing program into the ground. 

I know this may be a hard thing to hear or accept bc I know what its like tp apply, wait, and work hard towards getting into a second degree program. But you will be left in $90K debt and finish the program without the necessary skills or requirements to make you competitive in a market where other programs are placing their students in hospitals and preceptorships. I encourage you to look into any other option available because if you are expecting the school to be forthcoming and transparent with information, then sadly you will end up like the rest of us struggling through this situation. 

And if there are no other options for you and you have to attend this school, I sincerely hope that the fight we are gonna give them makes a difference for you bc this is a terrible situation to be in.

Hey y'all, I was told we were going to hear back around the third week of January for the admission of cohort 1 in Oakland by an advisor. I will email my advisor to follow up as well. Any one heard back yet?  I'm so anxious! Good luck to all of us!

@VMart89 I haven't heard anything since the email about receiving my application.

Any idea if San Mateo (April) will be out soon as well?

Haven't hear anything back since the email confirmation. That's great hopefully we find out soon!

I haven't heard anything either. I've only received an email in December that they completed a preliminary review.

Yeah the last I heard was in December regarding the preliminary review. Is anyone attending Nursing Success Seminar!?
