Samuel Merritt ABSN Spring 2022

Published

Hi everyone!

I wanted to start a thread for students who are applying for Samuel Merritt's ABSN program for the Spring 2022 cohort since it's due on July 1st. Feel free to ask questions and/or post your admission stats if you'd like. I went to a couple info sessions, so maybe I can answer some of your questions. To anyone who is currently in the ABSN program or have completed it, I would love to hear your experience and thoughts about it since I have heard mixed reviews.

Here are my current stats:

Pre-req GPA: 3.90 (Though I am still completing some pre-reqs this Summer/fall)

Science GPA: 4.00 (Taking pathophysiology this fall)

TEAS: I took it twice and luckily SMU will take the best scores from each individual section between the two. However, I don't know how they would calculate that since TEAS scores are equated based on difficulty. If I were to calculate my score based on my best results it would be 89%

Letters of recommendations: One from a Human A&P professor I had, who I also TA'd for after completing the class, one from a nurse, and an optional one from my boss at my current job (part-time food service employee).

Volunteer experience at an Emergency Department, TA'd for a Human A&P class for Sac State's ATS program (I don't know how relevant this would be since it wasn't a college course. ATS classes are meant for middle school/high school students who wish to enrich their knowledge in subjects of their choice).

Good luck on your applications everyone! You got this!

I got in as well! WOOOHOOOO. Congratulations to everyone who got in and to those who didn't this time around DO NOT GIVE UP. I applied to USF, UCSF and UCD last cycle and was waitlisted for all of them. I retook physio, chem and stats and finally made it. It is a journey.

Hi Everyone! I got in too!!

I didn't get in the first time around and am so relieved that I did this time. I am at the Sacramento campus. I just moved to Orangevale.

Does anyone else not have anything in the Checklist tab for admitted students portal? I have access to everything else, but not that...

Hey Guys...Has anyone heard back from the San Mateo application? I'm getting so nervous... YIKES! and Congrats to everyone who got into Sacramento!!!

hello everyone,

This is for San Mateo 2022 Spring's cohort. I am so happy to say that I got a call from the admission counselor for an offer in 2022 Spring Cohort. It's my third time applying so the third time is really the charm!!

my overall stat is not as stellar compare to everyone else but I do believe my work experiences & statement helped me a lot.

Overall GPA 3.2 w/ BS in Chem

pre-req GPA (I honestly don't know how to calculate it) but I got mostly As except Anatomy & Eng Lit (both Bs)

Healthcare experiences: 3 years as patient coordinator so all three LOR are either from manager or clinicians

TEAS: 90% overall ( I took it twice and SMU considers the highest score from each section so make sure you submit all the tests you've taken)

I retook a few classes to boost my pre-req GPA. I do believe if you have a strong GPA then work experiences are not as important since it is only an ABSN program. However, for those who don't (like myself), please do not give up. Find work in the healthcare field, get LOR from them, write a strong personal statement with your related work experiences, and lastly retake pre-req classes to boost your GPA. (it is a major factor for a lot of schools)

Good Luck to everyone and can't wait to meet you all!
